When we bought my son's first pony he was terrified of tractors. Bit of a nuisance as we kept him on a farm & the farmer had a habit of oarking a mahoosive red tractor right outside his stable. I stood & patted it & talked to it like a big friendly job (thank god no one was watching!) & let him decide when to approach & sniff it. Once he was happy to approach it we started putting polos on it (this pony would do anything for a polo). Now he's fine with tractors but he does get annoyed if they don't have polos for him!
