Little update: She didn't grey out after, she went kind of browny though (for want of a better term!) I'm sure there are experts here who have a better description.

She arrives in 3 weeks time. Going to start her on a good basic supplement in a handful of speedi beet and see how she gets on. She was an April foal so well grown.

Anyone else have weanlings arriving?

Thank you, any advice on managing feather greatly appreciated! Should I treat her for mites just in case?

No, not immediately, but I oiled my boy’s legs every 10 days or so with just baby oil, it just prevented scabby bits and the mud literally slides off the feathers. Make sure it’s thoroughly combed through and massage into nooks and crannies. Everyone goes on about pig oil and sulphur, but I found the sulphur a bit harsh, my cob had very pink skin.

Being able to do this took me a while, mine was not well handled when I got him and used to cow kick. Obviously avoid putting oil on her when the farrier/trimmer is due! ?

Fab option, but the girl’s a youngster, she might not take well to clippers! My Lister Stars got through feathers ok, but I needed at least 2 sets of blades.

And would feather grow back for the following summer? I'd like to show her as a traditional cob so would put in the effort if I could keep them at all. Although she doesn't have a huge amount yet anyway so maybe this winter won't be too bad. Hopefully she won't kick out too much ?
