Hi
I wonder if anyone here has experience of using ponies/ horses for low level forestry/ farming work? I would love to speak to a few more experienced individuals.
I particularly interested in anyone has used ponies for this work rather than heavy horses and your experiences.
Thanks

We use a Welsh section a, he was originally bought to be a companion but we thought he could be useful. He is very handy and he knows left and right better than I do :)

We use voice commands :)

Dad did but not in my lifetime they used clydesdales for the big trees and highland type ponies for the saplings and small trees. Shame they still dont they have massacred a wood near us and left an awful mess

Roandale Dales Pony Stud are heavily involved in it. I think they do demonstrations of their ponies working too.

I dont and I dont think my current pony would enjoy it. But my old pony would have adored that sort of work and I did briefly look to see if I could place him with someone doing it, but they are very few and far between.

Thanks all, we've experience of using heavier horses, but fr the lighter/ smaller wood now would rather have some smaller ponies - we're considering Fell or Welsh A at the moment. I agree with above posters pony's temperament is very important!
