A toddler was killed at gate 6, North car park after a concrete bollard fell on top of the child. The child suffered massive head injuries. Gate 6 is the gate we went through yesterday and we had to walk past where the incident occoured. It was taped off and covered with tarpaulin but it still chilled you to the bone.

My thoughts are with the family.

How utterly dreadful.
I can't imagine anything worse than going to a show to give your child a nice day out and losing them due to someone's lack of danger. Surely there must have been some sign that the bollard was weak?
Those poor parents..

How awful

I heard there was a bad accident, I didn't realise it was something so horrific. My condolences to the family

I hope someone takes responsibility for this, by the sounds of it it was an accident waiting to happen.... and should never have had the chance to happen.

How utterly tragic I cannot begin to imagin how the parents are feeling.
I agree with _Charlie_ it should not have been allowed to happen.
My thoughts go out to the family

How tragic, condolences to the family.

You would think at such a large show, all health and safety areas would be covered to prevent things like that happening?

its a 4 day show with hundreds of animals and people staying there as well stalls etc, there is no where to move it too and it was outside the show ground.

i was there that day and did not know anything about it till i got home that night.

my thoughts are with the family xxxxx

would imagine as it was lunch time they had just arrived or had lunch in the car, maybe he decided to climb up on it?

what ever the reason they should have been secured or taken away if not.

He was swinging on a chain that links the bollards. The bollards were in front of the cattle floats and horseboxes. He came from a farming family so there is every chance the parents were in one of the lorries.

I understand that he came from farming family but the lorry park is a pretty busy place to be playing in. In any case, I don't think at the moment there is blame to be levied anywhere - it's just a tragedy that he had to lose his life on what should have been a fun day out. Poor wee soul
