Tragic Accident at The Royal Highland Show yesterday

How absolutely awful, and i know that perhaps he shouldn't have been playing on the bollards but you also wouldn't think that the weight of a 6 year old would be able to topple such a large heavy object, it must have been unstable to start with

i'm sure there will be an investigation but it's not going to bring the poor lad back to his devastated family

3 years old, I'm sorry BUT WHERE WERE THE PARENTS!! Tragic and yes sadly avoidable, I wouldnt have let me 3 year old dangle off chains in a car park at that age..........

Having had a 3 year old boy, it is entirely feasible he would have hung off a chain in a private car park. This is what small boys do.

I can't imagine how the parents must feel - what an awful thing to happen.

So you would have let him do that, and had him under close supervision then? - the poor little mite was by all accounts "playing there" for some time. I am not saying i dont feel for the parents, god how must they feel, BUT I wouldnt have let my kid, boy or girl, "play" in a car park! not even at a rural show. They woudl have been stuck in the lorry living, or with me, end of.

Where does it say that he had been playing "for some time". For all we know, the parents could have had him on a toddler strap - we just don't know the details so I can't see why you are pointing the finger at them when you don't know what took place. And yes, in an enclosed private car park if I had been standing next to him, my son probably WOULD have pulled the chains. He may have only done it once as I would have suggested that he would end up with dog wee on his hands. But it may have only taken one pull to get the concrete bollard down.

Do you have a son?

I understand that emotions can run high with subjects like this but perhaps in case any relatives or friends read this it should be kept on topic. Placing blame won't bring their son back, it's just a tragic accident. RIP wee man

Agreed.
Poor little man... I am a mum of two boys.
Boys will always be boys... and unfortunatley accidents will always happen. It is rare for the outcome to be so tragic.
Thoughts with his loving family at this terrible time for them ...

QR to FMM

I have three nephews and a daughter who is very much a tomboy, there is no excuse, but sadly it wont bring the child back, poor little thing, and yes I feel extremely sorry for the parents as no doubt they will blame themselves when in fact the bollards SHOULD have been secured. Such a waste of a precious life.

Dont for one minute think I dont know about kids lol!

RIP little guy

Mistakes happen - you can't wrap them in cotton wool. The parents and family must be devastated. So too will be the H&S adviser and show organisers. You have to balance the risk against other factors. My thoughts go out to all.

It is tragic but when your time is up it is up. I hope they remember their young boy with lots of love and laughter and find the support to get them through their grief.
