Tragic news about Spud

So sorry to hear this, but I am so pleased that he spent his last 20 months being loved and cared for, rather than in that awful field he was found in. I will never forget the day he and Carrot were removed to Bransby, how dreadful they both looked, and how fantastic they looked only a few months later. Sleep tight. xx

Just caught up with this. So sorry to hear this but, as you've all said, in his last year and a bit he knew what being pampered and loved meant.

RIP Spud and fingers crossed Carrot is coping.

Hi people

(2 years ago, I was the OP)

Chloe and I havent been onto this forum for about 18 months (no need to :) ), so at a loose end, i decided to log on to see if there has been any updates on Carrot & Spud.

Unfortunately there has.

Very sad to read this, but at least Spud's last months were spent in relative comfort. I'm at work at the moment, so will tell Chloe the bad news later.

Thanks to the kind soul who dropped a note through the door, but unfortunately we moved house about 6 months ago, so never got the message!

RIP Spud

Andy, he looked amazing though spending his last few months finally knowing that someone loved him.

Thank you once again for informing us of their plight back then...

Sorry you heard this news now but they were well loved.

yeah, he did look good. I can't believe the transformation, he looked like a different horse. I hope carrot doesn't miss him too much. Chloe is off work for 6 weeks now, so Im sure she will want to go and visit him!

Andy
What you and Chloe did back then was amazing and thanks to you those two ponies knew what real love was again. Everyone at Bransby was gutted when Spud was pts but he had a fabulous last few months.
Carrot would love a visit I'm sure!
The story of Carrot and Spud is told in the front of the book Hovis' Friday Friday - From the Beginning ensuring that their legacy will live on. All the profts from the book are going to Bransby and I was inspired to do so because of Carrot and Spud - so i guess the residents of Bransby owe you another thank you for that.
xxx

That's so sad. At least he had a nice life at the end. Bless him.
I'm going to Bransby next week with my daughter! Really looking forward to it. Hoping to pick up a copy of Hovis's book!!

Bumblelion - have a great day!
Its a nice day out with lots of horses, ponies and donkeys to see, nice picnic areas and a little shop (where of course they sell Hovis' Diary!!). As its free to get in and to park then its a great place for visiting during the kids summer holidays

Free to get in? Really? More money to spend in there! Will def be buying Hovis's book!!!

Wow hovis, that sounds like a really nice gesture - i am sure that the staff at Bransby are very grateful. Heres hoping your diary gets onto the Times Bestseller list, and lots of money is raised!

If you get the chance, please thank the staff at Bransby from chloe and I for all the care and support they gave Spud over the last couple of years.

This thread has actually made me well up :o

Not just because of dear old Spud but quite simply the amazing people who were all involved in this and doesn't it just show how people can rally round, take action and become united. The community of HHO really is amazing.

I am so glad to see Andy on this thread too - I hope you are giving Chloe and yourself a huge pat on the back for starting it all out of genuine concern and kindness :)

Off to find out how I can order the book and several more copies which will make excellent Christmas presents :D

Just so glad he lived out his last length of time feeling loved and cared for. Shows what this forum can do, and what a change one single person can make
On another note, I read this thread earlier at work, and started blubbing, colleague asked what was wrong and I blurted out "Spud!" Then she said oh that poor horse..... I must have mentioned it a few times!
