Did anyone see this last night?

They were following a scent over a distance of 10 miles, lots of steep hills/climbs and at the finish line, were encouraged back to their owners by them shaking a bucket of what ever reward they gave the hound.
This was a combo of chicken, pasta, veg and tea (the drink).

Thing is, they literally got stuck into it the second they finished, no recovery time and wolfed it down whilst still heaving from the exersion.

I *thought* you should have a hourish clear from feeding to exercising, similar to with a horse to prevent bloat or intestinal problems.

Any thoughts?

They were fab hounds though :)

I noticed that.

Trail hounds are better designed, ie less extreme physically than horses (esp big horses, horses never meant to be 17hh, tho I have a 17hh) and large deep chested dogs (like my Dobe...ummm not realy choosing well am I). So less prone to bloat? But yep def a risk there....

i have trailhounds that i race. They only get a tiny bit of their favorite food when they finish a race as a treat, they don't get their proper feed til they get home. They all wear coats so they don't cool down too quickly and get muscle cramps. They don't all race 10 miles, some do 5 miles, there are several different grades of trail and each hound runs in the grade of trail they are suited to with other hounds of equal abillity. They also have great personallity and temperament and make great pets.
