Trail/long distance riding holidays/weekends

Just looking for some information/experiences really.....

I'm looking to organise a riding weekend with some close friends next year to celebrate a very minor (hmmm :() birthday. I have always wanted to do a trail ride of some sort. Start at A, go via B and end up at C type of thing, staying at B&Bs etc. on the way.

We are not necessarily looking for hard and fast riding, but scenery and a mini-journey with safe reliable mounts over varied terrain.

We need to be UK based but as we are based all over, any reasonable suggestions are welcome.

I had a great weekend with FreeRein. Very well organised. Don't expect glossy TBs, they are cobs built for climbing mountains! Wasn't stiff despite long days in the saddle, but we did get off and lead every so often, particularly down steep bits. If I went again I would take my own sheepskin seatsaver, as the saddles were OK, but a bit hard. You can go for a couple of days or up to a week. I went in April and it was boiling hot, although I wondered what it would be like if there was horizontal rain!

Thanks - that is a great recommendation and for a place that several, both here and elsewhere, have mentioned. We don't need glossy TBs. Well other than Rhino. :rolleyes3: :) x
 
Remember to take gloves and seatsaver. The reins are continental and I found them very uncomfortable.
 
We went in August and I didn't own my own horse then. It was scorchingly hot and of course I now own loads of gloves. The ponies we had were forward going bright little things. I bought gel seatsavers for both of us and they were very useful. Think cheap synthetic saddles and unfit arses.

Thank you. I shall bear that all in mind. I know from other riding holidays that saddles are not always as comfortable as one's own. :)

I'll stick with 31, not sure I want to go through all the 20's growing pains again. :) Ireland looks fab, although may be a little prohibitive in terms of travel costs, but will check it out. Do you want to come? I mean that, you'll fit right in. I'll add you to my FB message. xx
 
Another Wales based one.... Caeiago riding centre might be worth a look. I have just come back from there and am planning a return. If you want more details Google them or pm me... Know they are doing trail rides now (although the day rides are pretty stunning too). Nice forward going cob types, really nicely looked after horses and lovely people too.
