Trailblazer Finals - Cost of Entry etc

Received my schedule for the finals this week and

the cost, only qualified for one class in the Show Jumping - £50 entry + £10 1st aid + £82 stabling for two nights

+ £19 maint for the stable + shavings at £5.75 bale or special offer 6 bales for £31, so that's £192 before I've even put diesel in the lorry and food in the fridge, oh and if I want to jump the warm up class on the Friday that's another £20 = £219

...........Those that have been before is this the normal cost or has it gone up, I am shocked at how much it's going to cost and to be honest am thinking about not going.............

Too right it is, I thought this was for the amateur, think I have just about talked myself into having a BE day ticket and then finding a nice event to take my girl to instead.........
 
I know, it's awful. I qualified last year for 2 SJ classes and was quite pleased after a break from jumping then got the schedule through and decided that it was just too expensive to go so I used the money to affiliate BSJA instead.
No, the costs havent gone up, I think they were the same last year. I was a but shocked at the £18 maintainence fee for Stoneleigh Park??
 
And alot cheaper, going for it, just need to find a nice one, shame I didn't think about it before, but Prestwold Hall is lovely...... So any ideas...... I certainly will not be chasing 2nd rounds again, even if I do get the other too qualified for next year......... So think I might be joining the Eventers......

Gulp! Daughter has qualified for the stressage finals. Didn't expect it to be that much. Fortunately we are only an hour down the road so will not need to stable over there.
 
When you looking at eventing? Eland and stafford are lovely, but popular.... Draycott? Still accepting Intro entries I think....
 
I know - I went last year for 2 dressage and 2 SJ so just imagine how much of a bash my account took (oh and I paid half for hiring a lorry for the week too

Was looking at around end June onwards, Draycott was on my list, but it's the weekend before we go on holiday, but the August one is ok, might do that one if I can get my entries in.
 
I've qualified for the Elementary Dressage & I was also very shocked at a total of £169 for entries, stable & ancillaries. Entries are £46 for 2 tests, Stabling is £82 for 2 nights and that doesn't include any bedding

and £10 first aid (don't mind this but expensive per competitor) On top of that you've got bedding which will prob be another £20 & diseal (we're at least 3 hours away) of prob another £80 & food while we're there. I don't think they'll be much change out of £300

I know things are expensive, but this is ridiculous.
Plus I'd need to take 3 days off work. I can't warrent that for two 5 minute dressage tests

I'm prob not going to go, although I'll make the decision just before close of entries.

It was a lovely weekend - had great weather and arenas and people were lovely. Recommend the little restaurant they do on site (dinners for £6

). We stayed in lorry and made friends with the people around us. My only downside was my horse didn't like the stable so he was a little lethargic all weekend (didn't rest properly I think) but I would still do it all again
 
It's such a shame isn't it, you've worked hard to get to the finals, to then find out that you have to re-mortgage the house just to get to it.........
 
It cost the same as that 2 years ago, but it really is a fantastic weekend. I have qualified this year for 2 jumping classes and we are going.

It is ok saying go BE or BSJA but if you are like me who dosen't like eventing or dosen't want to BSJA ( Been there done that ) it really is a good opotunity to go to championship where you have good competition and well built courses.
 
I went in 2006 for the SJ finals and it cost about that but we didnt have to pay to park. It is very expensive, but I had a fab weekend and it was brilliant experience to jump at a championship. It was special to me as my horse is LOU after being diagnosed with navicular in 2002 and at one point we thought she was never going to be ridden again, let alone compete.
 
One thing I would say is that the woodchips you can buy there don't go very far so make sure you buy plenty or bring your own.

I do think it is worth it though as you get to compete at National Championships in lovely surroundings.
 
Have we finally found a sport that makes eventing look cheap??? Yehay!
Stabling for most 3DEs is £120 - for a week! You can move in from the Monday beforehand and stay until the Sunday or Monday. I can cope with paying that.
For £86 quid for two nights I'd want full livery ie. my horse fed, hayed, watered, mucked out, groomed and plaited!!!

I know think they've decided that us amateurs are the ones with all the money.

Shoing is just as expensive as it now seems the normal that you have to become a memeber of the shows society as well as having hte horse registed,passported, entry fee, stable fees etc etc.
 
I gave up TrailBlazering this year after paying for second round cards and not getting them, even though my cheque was cashed, and then when I rang to request some more they said I had to pay again. Decided to spend the money affiliating instead! Their loss really as we would have done loads of second rounds for the experience.

To be fair I heard it is Stoneleigh itself that charges a small fortune to hire the place out, and that the organisers don't make that much on it. But still I wonder...

Makes you wonder how much profit they make! As I bet all the stewards etc are volunteers......... their lunches can't cost that much eh?
 
It's the stabling that has shocked me the most & the fact that it doesn't include bedding. Plus what is the £19 maintainance & £12 to park the lorry for!!

Surely they should put a woodchip bed in each stable at the start of the competition & then provide each competitor with 1 extra bale (you can buy/add more if you wish) for that price
Going for the dressage would mean the bed I would put in would prob be used by the SJ competitors who come in afterwards. Either that or £25 a night sound much more the norm.
