Hi all - I’m looking to buy a trailer. I’d like something the equivalent size of an Ifor Williams 511. My ideal brand would be Cheval Liberte as I like the look and the way they tow. However, they only seem to have the Tourer (equivalent of a 506) and then go to to the Maxi range £10k+. I also like the Equi Trek L series but with the living included they are a bit bigger (more expensive!) than I need given I will most regularly only be doing local towing.

If folk could share the name of trailer brands that will take up to 2 17.2s it would be much appreciated.

Further, used trailer prices seem to be very high - I was offered a 2018 IW 511 for 7500 and a brand new one is only 8.5 plus vat, thoughts on pricing appreciated too please.

many thanks

Trailer prices have gone through the roof at the moment. I think mine is worth as much if not more than I paid for it brand new some years ago! TBH if you are thinking of new I’d look in to delivery times first as some are very long. If second hand, you may be restricted as to what’s available at a reasonable price.

The waiting list for a new Ifor trailer is now 2 years from when you place the order o_O. I heard that yesterday from an Ifor dealer.

My 2006 Ifor 510 (just serviced, and in good condition) is currently worth nearly double what it was pre pandemic. People are hanging onto second hand trailers for longer than usual as they can't get hold of a new one.

The Ifor HBX 511 is nice, and would take 2 x 17.2hhs. They do come up secondhand - Edgemere/Wilcox get them in from time to time.

I have a Bateson Ascot, it is a lovely trailer and advertised as being able to take 2x 17.2hh. I have only had my 16.3hh and 16hh horses in it height wise.

I have just picked up my new 511 and it was 6950+vat. It is beautiful and I wouldn’t have another brand, I know everyone has their preferences but I love IW.
If you want new, I would recommend ringing all the dealers in the U.K. (won’t take longer than an hour) and ask them to put you on a cancellation list. Then when people get fed up and cancel the trailer they’ve ordered, you can take over the order and won’t have as long a wait.

They are catching up on orders now though, I don’t think the wait is as long as it was.

I put it on Facebook local horse group and marketplace, got loads of queries through that. I had 1 query via Horsemart and none from gumtree. It sold the first day though but I did price it competitively i.e. others the same age, type were on for £250 more. First person to view it bought it.
