My friend has the Equi Trek - lovely trailer, the horses seem to love it - but she said that the only 4X4s suitable to tow it due to it's weight are

Range Rover
Land Cruisers
LWB Troopers
One other who's name escapes me - sorry:o Might have been the Defender

I know they looked at the pick ups and they weren't suitable as well as the Disco...

I love my Toyota Landcruiser, tows 2 big horses easily, never stuck in the mud. I have an auto and have never had any probs.

Depending on the size of the Equitrek ie M being lighter and L being heavier... The L's need to be towed by something that tows 3.2ton minimum.

The Rangy and the Cruiser is legal to 3.5
LWB Trooper (I think) 3.2
Defenders 4ton
Disco - 3.5 (I think)
Shogun (lwb) 3.2
Pickups with a Trek, poss not unless going for the smaller one as are only legal to 2.8

I have towed with Autos and manuals and can honestly say that either is fine. I love my Shogun / Equitrek L combo. Sooooooo easy and stressless all round.

Only if you were considering the triple axle would you REALLY have to consider something that tows 3.5 ton. Mallet and egg spring to mind.... (also thinking budget and economy here!!!)
