Just spent 2 1/2 hours e-mailing/ringing/texting people for more information on their trailers for sale because they cannot be bothered to write an add more than a couple of sentences long!

Just because the add states 'takes 2 16.2hh,' it does not mean your trailer is tall enough for my special case mare!

Also, it is crazy how many people don't even know the unladen weight of the trailer but can say 'my car pulls it no problem' - oh, well that's OK then!

I have money waiting (which is unusual for me!) and want to buy a trailer, nothing fancy, I can handle old, but which is a few inches over 7ft inside and is safe.

If anyone can point me in the direction of a good place to view trailers for sale which is not eBay, Preloved or Gum Tree, please let me know lol.

Thanks for getting this far!

Phew, and breathe!

Not sure where you are but there are a few on nfed.co.uk if you're in the south of England. Have you had a look at trailer dealers (like Fieldfare in Salisbury) as they often have 2nd hand ones taken in part exchange?

I've just been in the same position but I did my homework first and found out which type and model fitted my needs, able to be pulled by our Terrano so that after that, it was easy, I just searched for what I wanted.
I thought I wanted a IWT 510 and looked at several but I was spoilt with my very old (22 yrs!) 505 because that was in such good condition and the ones I looked at (with a decent budget I thought of £2600) were tatty and knocked about. Obviously other ideas of what constituted good condition didn't equate with mine, lol! I also wanted an older model as they have proved to be the strongest made and lasting ones.
I actually saw a local advert although it was on Preloved for a Rice Beaufort Double, checked out all the blurb and went to have a look. It's only 12 years old and in very good nick with little wear, after an inspection by OH and son, it's now home having a facelift of T Cut and I can't believe what a quality item I have bought for just £1250 - well £250 if you count what I got for my old 505!! Why so cheap? It's because most want a lightweight trailer like an IWT and they don't make the Rice ones any longer although they were always regarded as the Rolls Royce of trailers before the IWT became popular.

Do your homework, sort out what type and model will suit your needs and the car you drive then single your searches down to just those models; it makes it much easier and you just need them to send better pics to stop a wasted journey. These are the sites I used to look for trailers and they were countrywide so you're bound to find something near you.

Thanks Maesfen. I totally get what your saying. I know 505's are out and 510's. I've messaged a couple of Rice trailers so hopefully will get a reply. I've also found a couple of nice looking ones 'Pegasus?' But after research, they're too heavy too. Guess i'm just being impatient!

lol, it took me three weeks of looking on all of those sites and more every day before I came across mine and because it wasn't a 510 I skimmed over it! I only went back to it after seeing two tatty IWTs so I was lucky it was still there.
Cheer up, one will turn up.

Don't forget, unless they're saddos like me. most will be out over the weekends and take time to get back to you; I know, it's awful waiting for replies.
Another one you could try, it gets quite a lot - and not all of them bad! is Dragon Driving.

BTW, if you get a Rice, you can still get most parts from Warwickshire Trailers (on net) and have you tried facebook too, amazing what a wanted ad turns up on there?

Have a look at Bateson, you could get a nice one for that budget. They will take up to 17hands (and I have done so in mine).

Arrgh. I posted on this thread last year and feel the need to resuscitate it. Why is it so difficult to buy a trailer? I know I'm looking at the wrong time of year but...

Am trying to upgrade my trailer.

Have seen two which were quite a bit older than the sellers had been told when they bought them, and have missed seeing another for the same reason. (Do people not check what they have actually bought??).

One trailer's spare wheel was a different type to the 4 on the trailer and woudln't have fitted, and she had never noticed. I could go on...

Was going to see another but it turns out the maker's plate on the A frame and the plate on the hitch have been removed. Seller doesn't view this as a problem at all...

I'm losing the will to live. On the plus side, going to see another tomorrow which looks overpriced but hopefully it is at least is what it is supposed to be. Keeping everything very firmly crossed.

I can thoroughly recommend Ralph Bailey Trailers in Somerset (Near Bridgwater, just off M5). He has a very large selection of new and second hand trailers.... probably about 40 - 50 on site.

If they have stated what trailer it is then in many cases, but not all, you can google the dimensions/weights on the internet

Gosh, that name brings back some memories... I remember buying a trailer from him back in the early nineties!!! He was very good to deal with then and I guess he still is considering the business is still going strong :)
