Trailer fan/extractor fan

Anyone fitted a budget (battery?) fan into their trailer - which one did you get? There’s a spot in the ceiling of my equitrek that looks like it’s for a fan, but it was either an optional extra or been removed before me. OR I could fit something square into one of the windows maybe? I feel like an extractor fan would be more use than blowing extra air in … the stress level of travelling has gone down majorly but he’s still getting very warm especially on the homeward journey after exercising (I haven’t taken him out in the recent heat). I assume because the equitrek is a box with teeny tiny windows and very little airflow 🙈
 
I have a 3.5t van, I think people would be surprised at how little airflow there is in these boxes. Unfortunately, when I got this box converted they wouldn’t fit a roof fan due to leaking issues (roof is not flat) so i fitted 2 fans in the luton, whilst they’re ok, they’re not a patch on the extractor fan on my previous box. My horse used to run very hot on the box and the fan helped him considerably, he’s now chilled so i don’t worry as much

Appreciate they're not currently available but thought it might give you an idea. I tend to use them more once we've stopped and no longer have airflow but they're surprisingly effective. They were recommended by others on here who I think did use them when they are travelling. I found that the battery lasted well on them but take a battery pack with me just in case I want to boost them.

There's a great post written by Kevin Parker Horseboxes on FB about airflow in a 3.5t. Essentially the right set up of windows and roof vent makes a huge difference and a roof vent can be more effective than a fan and I think a roof vent could possibly be added post conversion if you did want another option :)

Oh ok something like that does look good! Thanks - it’s always worth asking as I wasn’t sure if the things I was looking at would actually be effective!

Yes, i read that, it’s very interesting. Unfortunately because of the roof, fitting vents or fans introduces areas for water to get in. As i have a window in the bulkhead that really improves airflow when I have the passenger window open….. it’s just chilly for me sometimes but I’m happy to suffer for my horse’s comfort 😁

that is what i do in my show treka, one fan at front by window fixed by cable ties and one at back cable tied to the rug rack high up- i do have a roof vent and two windows though

I posted about this issue with my 3.5 a few years ago and someone kindly recommended the rechargeable fans. I've got one cable tied the opposite side to the tie up and I see both ponies turn their face to it travelling.

Probably cooler than the cab. When I win the lottery I'm buying one with air-con!
