Looking for personal experiences and recommendations as I’ve read conflicting info on what can fit in what trailer! I’m looking to buy, don’t have mega budget either.

17hh MW ID x - I plan to normally travel alone but don’t want to rule out taking a small friend
Drive a freelander auto on a B+E.

thanks in advance :)

I have a 2007 Richardson Supreme Ultra. It's slightly longer and taller than an Ifor 511. Bought it from a friend who transported her 17.3 Clydesdale in it and there was plenty of space for her. Proper roomy luxury for my fat little 15hh cob!!!

A friend of mine has an Ifor HB511, made in 2018 and used literally 5 times for less than £5k if that is of any interest. Travelled an 18.2hh and an 18.3hh in it happily so plenty of room in every direction. Can send you the link to Ebay by PM if it is of any interest.

sorry to sound like an absolute cheapskate but a lovely 2018 511 is out of our budget at the moment. *sigh*

I've traveled an 18 hander in an Ifor 510 comfortably, and he wasn't easy to load or travel in the beginning (but got used to it).

510’s seem easier to come by in my budget so this is all good news he will fit.... He bears a few similarities to a giraffe when travelling but does load well.

I have heavy horses (18.1 clyde & 17.3 shire) and have used both Richardson Supreme Ultra and Ifor 510 at different times. I prefer the Richardson by a mile but for size I would expect no issues in an Ifor.

I have a 2016 EquiTrek Space Trekka M and it's absolutely fine for 2 x 16.3hh chunks. There's plenty of room, it's light and airy, it tows well and the beasts like the rear facing travel. They also do a longer one, the L, which would easily fit a 17hh ID, plus if you take out the partition and cross-tie, you'd have even more room.

They do get mixed reviews, but I've been really happy with mine so far. They are a bit pricier than an IW, but in my mind you get what you pay for. You might get an older model for less, so it's worth looking.

I have a 510 and my 17hh WB fits fine in it :) i did have this worry also when i switched from a 7.5T to a trailer but i've never had issues since

We have a Wessex Olympian 3 horse to be able to accommodate my husband's 17.2 ISH (he weighs around 760kg). They are rated to differing weights depending upon the original purchaser. Ours has the higher rating so we can tow 3 or two very big horses. If you set the partitions up for two horses then even large horses have loads of room. They are not easy to get hold of (no longer made) but you can still get the parts so they therefore hold their value well. Because we wanted to be able to not be limited on weight we tow with an old Merc M class which can pull 3.5t so it works really well. When parked next to the 510/511s you really notice the difference in size.

Right....apparently according to OH freelanders are god awful for towing, especially considering load is going to be on heavier side.
He’s been on forums (including this one!)
can anyone shed any light, anecdotal evidence or hear say welcomed!

I have a cheval liberte 2003xl which fits my 15hh mare and friend's 16.3hh mare in very well, it's pretty lightweight at 850kg unladen, would probably suit what you need!

A freelander will depend on age/engine/model as to how good (or not) it tows. But either way with a 17hh horse and a big trailer you will be on your limit even on the better ones. It’s not up to the job of towing two

My 17:3 ( rug size 7ft3) in my ifor 510 hé much prefers it to any horse box as he has more space
