TRAILER HELP!510! Bateson! Robinsons Requisite 200 URGENT!

Have a Bateson and its been brilliant. Go for the one with the external lockable tack locker though, wish I has done that. Bateson do one size and it will carry upto 17hh (and I have done so).

Well that depends on the size of the horses involved, and you can always unload out the back but you also said you have to swing the partition in your cheval liberte to unload so I''m not sure what your point is?

My point is that if you have two horses aboard (my horse on the right behind the driver and her smaller friend on the left) and if the ramp is on the right then:

  • I can't take my horse off the front ramp as there is not enough space for her to swing around and she falls off the side of the ramp
  • I cant swing the partition cause smaller horse is in the way
  • I can't unload smaller horse cause my horse is in the way.

I therefore have to unload off the back ramp in which case why bother having a front ramp at all?

If the ramp is on the left then smaller horse can unload no problem, then I can swing the partition and unload my girl with plenty of room for her to get at the right angle to walk nicely down the ramp.

I don't understand how your horse is in the way?

You unload the one on the ramp side first, and then swing the partition for the other... The same as we did with our richardson with our ramp on the opposite side. .

If you don't have a big horse you may not experience this, but the angle of the ramp is too sharp for a large horse to get "round the corner" when there is another horse on board and when the large horse is on the same side as the ramp. Therefore the horse walks "straight on" and off the edge of the ramp rather than down the ramp. I don't like this as I feel it's an accident waiting to happen.

As the bigger horse travels behind the driver i.e. on the right, this problem only occurs with trailers where the ramp is on the right.

Just to be difficult, JulesRules, I've traveled a 17hh warmblood in the Ifor 505 with company ranging from 14-16hh and never had a problem unloading her first down the front ramp. It's tight, but she copes. So - for the sake of others - it may depend on the individual horse. (And yes, I'm well aware I need a 510/511!).

Another vote for the Bateson :D I have an older style bateson 55HB & I cannot fault it in anyway in terms of design or usability. Great safety features & very practical & light. Great trailers :D

If your under a budget have you not thought of an old rice trailer and replacing the floor does it have to be a new trailer the old ones last for years just replacing the floor. I love my old rice trailer and replace the floor when necessary.
