As title really....do you insure your trailer with the company that insures your car or the company that insures your horse?

Or use someone completely different?

It is on my "to-do" list tomorrow....I have got AA Road Cover with my bank account, should this cover me too?

Thanks.

My cars and trailer are insured with NFU. The horses with KBIS.

So I use my car insurance company, its just added to one of my car policies. Actually its added to the little car policy not the 4 x 4 :D :D

NFU are fantastic, breakdown insurance is included for the trailer and horses. They were also really good when I wanted to add a hire trailer for a day, they actually covered it for me and never billed me :D :D

Thanks.

I just called my car insurance company (swift cover) and they told me my trailer is automatically insured within my car policy - 3rd party - so thats pretty good isnt it?

I am covered with AA for breakdown cover so will call them & pay the extra to cover the trailer......would be nice if they said it was automatically covered too?!

From what I understand, you need to have special trailer insurance to travel livestock (if you want to be insured). With the NFU, they cover certain types of trailers as standard with your car policy but a livestock trailer isn't covered as standard.

Also with NFU, you have to have the vehicle that tows the trailer insured with them to be able to insure the trailer. We have 2 cars, my car insured with them, Discovery insured elsewhere and a trailer. Can't insure trailer with them as Discovery not insured with them.

All a bit confusing!!
There are companies that do trailer cover as seperate.

I dont think anyone would want to steal my trailer it is so old but I shall look into specific policies.

The sites I looked at need a "lock / key number"? and as I have not picked the trailer up yet I dont have a hitch lock as I wanted to check it was a standard 50mm tow ball? I assume it is on a Rice even if it is old? Hmmm.....

It is important to have horse breakdown cover. So that if you do have a problem out and about you will get someone out to you quick and they will bring or be able to bring out a horsebox to get the horse home if they can't fix the problem.

Mine is with SEIB.
