Hi

Can someone help me?

I am borrowing a friend's trailer for the weekend and apparently their insurance does not cover me using it.

I called NFU to see if I could insure the trailer on my horse or car insurance and they said they cannot insure it because I dont own the trailer?

Anyone know whcih company will provide me with insurance for the weekend?

Thanks

Thats funny was going to reccommend NFU

I borrowed my friends trailer a few years back now, I was going to hire one, I rang them and they were willing to cover me on a daily basis as long as they had the serial number of the trailer, anyway, it turned out my friends trailer was insured with them anyway so they said I didn't have to pay !

They must have changed their policy

I have phoned numerous insurance companies and they will not cover me. Will only cover the owner and members of their family. Looks like my friend is going to have to come with me then we are insured - seems ridiculous that they wont insure the trailer! Trying to do everything above board and properly and am hitting my head against a brick wall!

There one company that does Trailer Hire insurance - it's quite cheap but I've only ever used in conjunction with hiring trailers from organisations not "borrowing" from a friend. That one company that does it is E&L and although they don't have a great reputation in terms of paying out for equine insurance, it's the one I've found that will do hire cover and as the risks are low and over a shorter term, the chances of you have to claim on it are probably less. I would, however, make sure that you 100% ensure that you keep the trailer as secure as possible in your possession eg wheel clamp on rear wheel, hitch lock clamp etc etc.
