and picking it up on Saturday. Now it's insured 3rd party under car insurance but i'm wondering who people use to insure the trailer by itself??? And how much you pay annually?

Horses are insured with NFU so i thought i'd ring them tomorrow for a quote but i'd appreciate if people could give me an idea of what to expect

Ooh congratulations on your new trailer!
I bought my first trailer a couple of months ago and now have it insured costing about £115 a year. Try the NFU if you have your horses insured with them.

Just be careful how much you insure it for - speak to insurance people. I recently heard of someone paying premiums for £4.5k for a trailer, as that's what they'd paid for it, but come pay out time when it was stolen they only got the market value of £250... Ouch.

Also, check your breakdown cover covers horse trailer and horse/s.

Yes, I've added my trailer onto my NFU horse policy. Cannot remember what is added - about £100 per year I think. Mines only insured for £2600 though.

Oh dear, thanks for the warning. I'm buying a very nice condition IW505 for a very good price so fingers crossed insurance people will agree price and it should hold its value at that for some time.

Thanks, will def call NFU tomorrow. I cant wait to get ponies out in it

I've got mine with the NFU and it works out a lot cheaper if you have car insurance with them and add it on via that, rather than have separate insurance for the trailer.

I think they added the trailer for nothing (although memory could be wrong) it was certainly for a nominal amount, as car with trailer is only £25 more than the cheapest alternative for car only.

My 4x4 is with another company as we already had other car insured with them and they gave us a good deal for adding 2nd car. NFU was way higher to insure either car with.....But hopefully as horses with them i should be able to get some kind of deal

My trailer and 4x4 are both insured with NFU. Can't remember how much exactly but wasn't too much. They always seem to give me decent advice and I know others have said how easy they are to deal with when they have had horsey claims.

I did the whole internet and phone quote thing a couple of months ago when I got my trailer. NFU will only insure a trailer if you have another policy with them (which I don't).

I got very cheap quotes from E&L (shudder) and another company, but I don't always go with the very cheapest, as it is my experience that if you pay cheap, you get cheap (E&L!!!).

Julie Andrews Horse Insurance gave me good cover at a sensible price (under £100)

I have had the trailer as an addition to the horse insurance with NFU but they don't do a specific trailer policy. In the past I used to use Stoneways Insurance Co, they weren't expensive though I can't recall exact price. Beware E&L...
