Hi does anyone know companies that do trailer insurance and recovery other than NFU? I have had a BIG quote for my 4x4 and 3 trailers, one with recovery. I do like the NFU but would ideally like to shop around. Thanks..

I insure the trailer with NFU, its added onto the Horse Policy and cost about an extra £5 or so per month. The recovery part is through the RAC, costs £45 per year, not had to use it but as my hubbie works for the RAC I have every faith in the service, should it be needed..

Ah yes this is good advice thanks. I just need to check the NFU will insure the trailers separately to the 4x4; its the 4X4 insurance seems the most expensive, its £353 and I have had a quote a lot less than that. Thanks :-)

Try SEIB for insurance. You can get recovery as a separate through 'The Organisation of Horsebox and Trailer Owners', they insure you for recovery of a particular vehicle based on registration number.:)

Try the Organisation of Horsebox and Trailer Owners http://www.ohto.co.uk/

They do a cheap recovery if you are already a member of the AA - its only £49 per year, well worth it for peace of mind. Must get covered again this year.

I have trailer insurance (against theft etc) as an add-on to my horse policy, costs about £7.50 a month I think, from Amtrust Equine. I then have a separate recovery policy from the Assoc. of Horsebox & Trailer Owners in case I breakdown etc, £76 a year IIRC.

Useful stuff, thank you everyone. I don't have my horses insured so can't do an 'add on' nor am I with the AA. SEIB seemed more expensive than NFU for trailers but I will give them a ring to check. I hadnt thought of the AHTO, that's worth knowing. Cheers.
