Trailer Insurance

-Im going to be borrowing a trailer alot throughout the summer as i cannot afford my own atm.

My YO mentioned i would need insurance for it, is there such a thing that i can pay for a trailer insurance that insures me to pull any trailer?

I have my trailer added to my horse insurance policy.

I don't think you can insure a trailer you are borrowing but phone some companies and see what they say.

I *think* (but check) your car insurance will cover you for pulling a trailer third party - make sure they are aware it's a horsebox.

But for insuring against damage/loss to the actual trailer you will need to be a named driver/tower on the on the owners policy. Insurance companies can be sticky over this as often they will get all suspicious over hire & reward.

EF, have a look a few pages down at my post from last night about this (but from the other side). I asked about a friend borrowing my trailer and the general consensus was that she can't take out insurance on it because I already have it insured, and that it could end up being a bit of a nightmare if it ever got damaged.

However...what sort of insurance do you want? I have my trailer insured with my horse policies. That covers it for damage, for theft (either when left at the yard or when hitched at a show), and for accidents. My car would be covered under the car insurance if anything happened to it while towing, and the fleet (I have a Leaseplan company car) know that I am towing. I have a letter from them confirming I was allowed to put a tow bar on and that I can tow with said car. Finally, I also have trailer breakdown and recovery cover. This covers recovery of the horse to anywhere in the UK should I break down whilst towing, covers me if they can't repair the trailer at the roadside and need to take it away, and also covers the car ONLY whilst it is towing. As mine is a company car, it has AA cover through Leaseplan which would also cover any mechanical probs with the car whether I am towing or not.

I think people on here said that your car insurance would cover the trailer if you had an accident and caused damage to someone else's car/property, but check with them.
