For the past couple years I have had trouble with my trailer indicators. A friend took the plug thingie apart and checked all the wires, two of which were loose and they have worked ok since but now the lights won't come on. Its strange cos the side lights and brake lights come on when I brake but nothing when I put my headlights on which made is a very dangerous drive last night. I put my hazards on cos at least they worked. Anyone had this problem, could it be the plug again or something more sinister?
Is it something a normal mechanic would be able to fix? My car is due a service so might drop the trailer in too!
Thanks

You could get nicked for having faulty lights, so you really ought to get them looked at. Wiring on a trailer is easy to fix because it's accessible. A normal garage ought to be able to fix it for you, but it might be cheaper if you took it to your local trailer agent.

Yeah I know, its dangerous too I don't intend on using it again, it was working fine on sat then went last night. I'm not sure where the nearest place is I can take it but will ask around the yard tonight.

My trailer lights can sometimes be a bit icky, often indicator lights - I use WD40 and a wire brush to clean up the connecting plug and this sorts it most times, they often just get dirty

Just get a vehicle electrician to sort it out. It will be quicker in the long run.

I think you are not too far from me. I took my trailer two years ago to this chap for a service (must book it in again soon) and he did a good job and knew his stuff.

Might be worth a call and a visit to them.

Just spoke to my mechanic and he has an auto electrician who often pops into his garage so will contact him after I have a little prod around tonight. I'm not that trusting since I paid about £70 last time (different garage) my indicators weren't working and they didn't even fix it properly!
