What is the best trailer to go for with plan to travelling a 16.2 and a 15.2?

I'm just looking for opinions good and bad really on any makes.

Thank you

Ifor Williams 510 - Basic, robust & roomy.

Bateson Ascot - Classy, smooth ride but more expensive

Cheval Liberte - Cheap and cheerful !!

If you are on a budget I would say the Ifor as they more than do the job and hold their value well.

If you can spend a bit more then I would give the Bateson a look.

Thank you. The Ifors seem to be the most popular from browsing the "for sale" sections, so I had presumed that they held their value well.

Must admit I do quite like the look of the equitreks but think they may be a bit out of my price range

fautras is another make, don't know much about them though.
I would be an Ifor or Bateson if i was looking

Bateson ascot . Stylish, eye catching, pricy :S And it front unloads on to the off side of the road so if u ever have to stop or break down your horse unloads onto the safe side

:D:D also it carriers to 17.2 hh horses removable partician, dual tack storage, also u can get it in barn doors with a pull out ramp or the normal ramp drop down

Bateson or Rice trailers are more sturdy than the Ifors and most come with a "floor for life" (it's meant to last for the life of the trailer, and if it doesn't they'll repair it).

It's best to just go and have a look at each trailer. Important things for us (besides the obvious) were front unloading to the left, a grooms door that opened from the inside and outside, and catches that weren't too fiddly, but you might have different things that are important to you.

To be honest it had never occurred to me which side you unloaded on

It does make more sense to unload to the left side, so yes that would be an important feature.

Other than floors is there anything I should be extra vigilant about when looking at second hand traliers??

well i reacently did a trip with a friend whos trailer has a front ramp on the other side to that of the ifor and i must say i prefer it on the side that the ifor has it. If you have to get a horse out on the road the police should be there and the traffic stopped anyway.
We had an incident in my friends trailer that ment i had to get into the trailer to sort the horse out as he had caught his head collar on something and broken it, had a mad panic and i had to get in and calm him, well getting in through the jockey door on the road side of a duel carriage way with articulated lorries flying past has to be the scariest experiance ever. felt like i was playing chicken with the lorries and getting back out of the trailer was even worse as you cant see the cars and lorries comeing so you have to guess and pray nothing gets to close!
If the jockey door was on the other side i could have gotten in and out of it much quicker and safer then i did and wouldnt have had to put my life in danger to do it!
I would go for an ifor every time. Also all new ifors have aluminium floors which dont rot!

I love my Bateson Deauville, considerably lighter (at least 150kg) than the Ifor 505 and easier to tow, easier on the towing vehicle too, especially if your transporting a 16.2 and a 15.2hh. It takes upto 2 x 17.2hh, it is light, bright and airy being white fibre glass and my horse travels like a dream in it.

The ramps are all light and really easy to manouver and yes, they open onto the pavement side of the road which is much safer.

I got mine second hand for £2000 and its been a great buy.
