As the title suggests, just want a little advice really since the law has now changed enabling people who passed their driving test after 1997 to tow.

I currently run a mid-range car and a van conversion Horsebox and it’s got me thinking, would it be worth me selling up my lorry and car to buy a trailer and 4X4?

I have granddad rights anyway but when I decided to get a trailer I did a day course on learning how to tow. Personally I didn't like the trailer so much, I found it harder to park than a wagon and there isn't the storage space - I keep all my travelling stuff, rugs, first aid, buckets etc permanently on the lorry I now have. Plus at the time I was doing a 60 mile round trip to work every day which would have been very expensive in a 4x4 so I needed a second car for work anyway.

Times have changed of course, the newer 4x4s are more economical and I work from home now, but I still prefer my lorry to a trailer.

Im trying to work out how feesible it would be to replace me 4x4 and trailer with a 3.5t. I have a company car and i hate towing! My issue is weight and length, my horse is 16.2 RID and takes 7ft rugs. I'd only travel him so its more about the size/ length/ height of the horse area!

If your going to tow i would recommend doing a days towing course. It scares me that there will be people out there now towing with no training even though grandfather rights exist, i feel more worried with drivers nowadays! (not a personal attack obviously)
