I have a 17.2 ISH who is on the TB side rather than the ID. He loads brilliantly in a trailer and lorry and travels well, however, he doesn't like standing in a trailer at shows.
I only travel him. Can anyone recommend a trailer type or small lorry that he will fit into with enough space to be comfortable? I currently have free use of a Rice Treble, but this eats diesel on journeys because of the weight and my horse tends to rock backwards and forwards in it when we are stationary.
I can't afford to buy new so older market options would be good. Thanks guys.xxx

I have the old style Ifor 511 (I think that's the right name for the big version) Mine in 17.1 Irish x and my old horse was also 17hh and medium weight - it carried both of them fine and there was plenty of space even with two that size in.
The Irish biy had only travelled in a lorry before coming to me and he adjusted fine.

I have a 17hh mare, who is 6'9 in rugs, so pretty long in the back. When I was looking for my horse-box I was advised to look for as much headroom as possible and at least 7'8. My 6.5T Merc 709D has 8ft and my mare travels superbly in it. I have taken her plus another 17 hander no problem.

It's actually coming up for sale, to be plated next week and then advertised for approx £5K ono, as I am biting the bullet and upgrading to a 7.5T with living. I am Hants based so if you are local and interested, PM me. :)

I dont really see why it would be the trailer being too small that is causing him to not stand happily at shows in it. I had a Welsh D, who was only 15.2hh in my trailer - he used to be dreadful if we stopped, he'd then expect to get out (and often started to...). He just never liked staying on it if it wasn't moving so I simply tied up outside at shows - no problem.

I travel my 17.1hh WB in my Bateson Ascot easily.
