The rubber 'skirt' on one of my half partitions is almost all torn away. I really need to remove now for pony's safety but do I need to replace it? Would it be ok not to have one? Currently on rear partition but could swap them over so skirt is on back and front is skirt free.

Pony travels well once loaded & normally wears travel boots or at very least brushing boots. Floor is also bedded with wood chip.

What are your experiences? ( Not too scary please!)

Mine broke off so I use it without. A small flap of rubber is unlikely to prevent anything happening anyway, I'm not too worried about it!

The skirt ripped off in my last trailer and I never replaced it, used it for years without it. My new trailer has the skirts intact and the only benefit I see is that they stop pee splashing over onto the other side (and your stuff if you're like me and keep boxes of things on the other side!).

Its really only to stop horses standing on each others legs and from putting their legs too far under the partition cause they feel it on their legs i think. I used mine, bolted to the rest of the partition, to travel mini stallion and others. But my lovely beast horse just ripped it all off last week so now i have none lol

If you don't mind paying and it is an Ifor Williams trailer you can get a replacement from Corwen. However I made a cover out of waterproof material and OH cut the old rubber into strips and slotted it into sections in the cover. He fitted it on to a rod which slid into the groove at the bottom of the partition. It is still fine, if a little grubby, 5 years later.

Remove the skirt, cut the top broken bit off and then refit the skirt, making new screwholes through the rubber. It will be about 10cm shorter (if your rip was near the top).

I just cut mine a couple of inches from the top .
I travelled two big hunters for years like this as one hated the skirt I never had any issues .

Mine hasn't got a skirt. I assume it died years ago, as it's a very old trailer. I have thought about replacing it with a bit of old carpet, attached with cable ties or something, but never did get around to it. The ponies are quite happy without.

I'm only bothered at all because some of mine are little, and could go under the partition. If I have to travel them, I remove it altogether, and just have the breast bar.
