I have a secondhand Bateson trailer, that I bought last year (was quite lucky as dont really find secondhand ones very often) It is in great condition generally, floor is fine, etc... the only thing is that the fastenings on the partition bars need replacing soonish, as do the bars themselves. It also could do with new tape on the outside as the yellow is now cream

My question is, is it worth spending the money doing it up, or should I sell it and put the money towards a new one, also how much would a 8yr old bateson deveille be worth?

Dont want to spend money on it if it isnt going to keep its value, but then again, know that it should be very easy to sell if I wanted too

Well, I bought a second hand 510 and it needs a new floor. An IW dealership quoted £800 (!) farm mechanic is doing it with galvanised steel for around £100 and will do a far better job. Bottom line...ask about!! Partition bars are cheap, I paid £25 for a half one and £42 for full length breeching bars from IW. Fastenings won't be exensive.
I've hardly ever seen Bateson ones second hand. 510's are similar. Both hold their value very very well, especially those with non wooden floors. Honestly, it sounds like yours needs little spending on it. I wouldn't bother about cosmetics on the outside unless it was of technical issue. I've seen 10-15 year old models of both selling for £2kish.

When you say the fastenings are gone, do you mean the clevis / lynch pins? (thinking ifor here, as don't know how batesons work)

If so they are around £5 for 6 at most ag dealerships!!

The bits that the bars lock into, they are getting to the point where they arnt safe anymore. the bars themselves are really wonky and difficult to use so think new bars and fastenings would make a huge difference.

Will go ahead and try and get some work done on it

I sold my bateson early part of this year for £1900 and that was 12 years old. They are very good trailers and i think it would be worth doing it up, as someone else said i don't think it would cost that much to do.

As people have said Batesons are really good trailers & hold their value well. The transfers outside are easy enough to replace, Bateson supply a full set in any of the 4 colours for £30. As for the problem with the partitions you will find that that a trailer dealer/mechanic will be able to sort out that problem for you. You could even contact Bateson, they are very helpful.

Ijust bought my bateson trailer second hand - it's 10 years old but in immaculate condition - a Boston Deauville - for £2150, so definitely worth doing up I'd say.

I love mine...
