We are looking to buy a trailer, but unsure of what brand is best!

We were going to get an ifor 511, but friend said they liked their cheval, and Ive never really seen them out, so unsure what they are like?

Any reccomendations? It needs to be the L version of a trailer, due to billynormous ;)

I have a bateson ascot - takes two 17.2s if you've got the means to pull the weight of them (horses that is the trailers are lighter than ifors) - love it and can manage it on my own no problem.

Anything made by Wessex or Rice Richardson.

IW's are dreadful. Noisy, wobbly, have a terrible ride experience..and are easily nicked.
I'm surprised they're still in business TBH.

Ohhh im lovin the new Ifor's, know 2 people with them and there gorg :D Not a fan of the Richardson Rice boxs, friend had one and the top door (window door thingy at the top front) kept falling off, and ramp wasnt very sturdy!!

Just to throw another one at you! I have a Fautras... fantastic box and never had any problems with equine travellers on board :)

The biggest plus for me was that they are made in France where trailers have to undergo a yearly 'MOT' which means the build quality has to stand up to regular testing.

A friend as an ifor and I really think they aren't as great as people make out, the little things seem to go on them, they start rusting, bits of rubber come off just overall not that great.

We have a cheval and probably the best trailer we have bought. Very inviting for the horse as it is light good quality and well made. It is also on pullman springs so when you go over a bump in the road the horse doesn't feel it as much. We take ours out once a week and it still works brillaintly.

Prior to this we had a bateson, we bought about 5 years old and sold it on 7 years later and again it was a fab trailer but was too small. Very lightweight and well made.

You want to get an older ifor williams, the 505/510. Never had the problems of the newer ones, really built to last forever. Give horses a easy smooth ride, i have never felt anything move about always very relaxed.

Disagree
iw are certainly not dreadful!
My own 510 is certainly not noisy or wobbly and I love it.
I also notice where ever you go what ever part of the country you see them in abundance, they are popular and hence keep their value on the 2nd hand market more than any other make.
That unfortunatly is also why they are an object of desire for theves they are easy to shift once stolen.
I have had other makes and still like my iw best. ( rice and richardson were good just imo not as good )

there is going to be negativity / positivity with every make you ask about

Best thing is to look in person

Im onto my 3rd Ifor Williams

Yes they had their problems, but these have been sorted and trailers produced after August 2008 are fine.

I have an Ifor 506 2011 and its fab. My horse hates loading but loves the ifor its so light and inviting

My dad who tows says out of every trailer he has towed it tows the best and is very steady

I dont understand all the negativity

We originally went for equi trek but when we looked we descided against as they dont look to stable

We had heard of Ifor's being flimsy but when we saw in real life they look very sturdy

Plus their after care service is great to and out dealer is 10mins away so any problems and we dont have to go far

Its best to go and look as you yourself will know what exactly your looking for

Rice for me. Much the same reasons as Alligator tbh.

I would also opt for Rice over Rice- Richardson. The build quality is much better. The Richardson is more comparable with the Ifor.

But Rice are heavy which you need to take into account if you want to move it by hand. Of course, that also makes them harder to wheel off your driveway at night.;):)

Also, if you were to look for a secondhand Rice you would be wise to find out about the years in which the specs changed so you can look for one with a "plastic" floor. (They arent plastic but cant think what they are- just not wooden and should last the life of the trailer)

We're about to buy a Bockmann Topmaster... Impossible to get in the UK 2nd hand, so were going to buy new via Ireland due to a better exchange rate (if we don't find one soon in the UK)
Depends on your budget, you can by a horsebox for the price of the trailer we want which is why they are so rare, but worth it as the build quality and ride are fab.
Ifor Williams are a good trailer and roomy. Sadly as mentioned, they're like currency for a certain segment of society. We had one years ago, and to stop it getting nicked we sank a huge Marine chain into a hole filled with concrete with the last 2 links protuding (each link being about 2 inches thick) then chained the chassis with a chain that could only be cut with oxyceciline - it never went walkies and was very prominant.
Just to add, I personally wouldn't touch an equitrec with a barge pole. In addition, if the trailer were to tip over onto the ramp side you wouldnt be able to get them out.
