Got a new trailer that has been sat for a good few years, when it was put there it was good nick and looked after, but as said, its been sat for years..
dont ask me what make it is, im hoping somone here will know lol
its a twin axle
on a budget but clearly want it safe...
so, iv just picked it up today, had 2 others look at it and they know what there on about, and the chassis is fine, thats the main thing...

what i know it needs is
Floor - wood or metal? metal ones iv herd are best, where do i get that from?
Electrics- full re do
Jocky door lock, and bolts, as the door its self is fine as is the frame
brake cable i THINK thats what it is..
and the inside it has a Partition but it dosnt have the pole in the middle or for across...

i have pics and i will try and load.
any help/advice will be great :)

Oh nice project!

I'm just doing some remedial works to my trailer floor, its double layer, 22mm cedar planks length ways and 22mm oak planks across way.
Lifted in the top layer, resealed the bottom layer, installed a DPM, retreating all exposed metal work, relaying the top layer and retreating.

No really helpful to your post;

I'd probably replace all the electrics, install a new wooden floor, change the main break cable and breakaway cable if it looks worn. Change the shoes, check the bearings, maybe re-grease them (any everything else for that matter) -- over kill, but safe and reliable. It's ok the trailer being 'safe' but you don't want mechanical break downs 40 miles from home on the hard should of a busy motorway.

Cheers, least im not the only one doing a refurb.. :) pointless sending it to a company to do if i can manage my self, ill just get it serviced when im done, and that will say safe or no safe lol..

floor im going to take up the old boards today, and have a look, and im planning on using 20mm ply or marine ply..
the electrics i have NO idea, but my mom does so that will be her job.
im rather excited to get on with it and be like... cool, I did that lol

it will only be for a 13.2 fell and a 29inch shetty. lol..

Best of luck with your trailer refurbishment and servicing - you don't say where you are but if you get stuck I know a great guy who refurbs trailers regularly. He is also very good value for money - just say Fiona sent you!!

Guy I use is based in the Aylesbury area - he is called Jason King and can be contacted on: 07921 163960

Problem is that with a lot of these older trailers you cannot get parts any more - Rice went out of business years ago and Richardsons have done too now! Jason can make from scratch any parts that cannot be sourced and most often cheaper than the original parts!

Don't use plywood, even if it's marine ply, it's not the right stuff. You can get a rot proof board, install that. You will probably need new tyres as well. When a trailer has been standing for a long time ultra violet light affects the tyres & the walls start to break down.

When I got my trailer, which needed some work doing to it. the first thing I did, and i was on a budget, was to get the floor replaced. I had an alliminum floor fitted, slightly more expensive but worth the money I think.

I got new tyres on mine too has it had been sat for a while.

I then over a long weekend, sanded back the wood and treated it. Then painted it with several coats in blue.

I then also paid out and had it serviced before using it.

I was on a tight budget but safety had to come first hence the allo floor and service
