Is putting your postcode on the roof of a trailer still a good idea, if so any tips for doing it?

(Trailer is locked, wheel locked and "identa"(?) tagged, but just thinking of all that could be done)

Mine is roof marked, never had to test it out luckily! Good for police patrols on motorway bridges. I would have it done again.

Thought about it, but as we have a single Ifor williams the chance that anybody wants to steal it has been reduced compared to a double. Its parked outside my mums house down a farm track - good place to hide a trailer? - Who knows!

Could you not just take the wheel off? Surely that would prevent anyone stealing it

IW horse trailer and IW small trailer both wheel-clamped and marked with post code (in red paint) on roof of horse trailer and in various places on the little trailer.

Both trailers have Bulldog metal security T bars which are put through the A frame and are concreted into the ground. We also have electric security gates. All you can do is to try and slow them down a bit and make it harder to nick 'em!

Ooh that has reminded me to postcode mine!
We take the two wheels off one side - plus the spare, then clamp the other side. It only takes ten minutes to take the wheels off so worth it to slow down/put off a potential thief.

A friend had hers stolen after roof marking - it was recovered but not by the mark - theifs were arrested and stated they also sit on motorway bridges and link post codes - 2 police officers from different forces have advised me to use a combination of letters/numbers meaningless to theives but as a visible mark for air and road patrols to combat this 'trick'

old box was marked by post code, phone number & the statement (if not towed by a green Volvo, im stolen!)

I had a sign on the back of my trailer inviting Police to stop it and check it if moving during the hours of darkness, that added to the post code on the roof appeared to be a deterrrent
