I want to increase the security on my horse trailer. At the moment it has a wheel clamp and I have wondered about also getting a hitch lock or maybe a tracker?

Is there anything else that I should consider?
 
I concreted a heavy chain into the ground, and fitted a padlock with an alarm that went off if the steel wire was cut. Great bit of kit, and not madly expensive
 
That would be great when it's parked up here. I also want to take the horses out to ride on off road bridleway networks, so the trailer would be left in a car park while I ride, so I also want extra security for that situation too. :)
 
i got one of the bulldog hitch locks and its great. you can use it when box is hitched to jeep for extra security at shows
 
Paint your postcode on the roof, cheap and effective, datatag it, make it distinctive (so many trailers look identical) - it reduces the saleability for the thief,

A hitch lock would be a good detterrent, then also consider getting the trailer data tagged, which is a visual deterrent and a tracker too. Only ~£150 fitted (2xglass tag transponders, 4 x visible id numbers, and data dots in my case) and no annual subscription fees.

Agree with Sebastian, DataTag is IMO the best deterrent. I've caught a few dodgy individuals having a good gander at my trailer over the years and I'm sure that I've only still got it because it's tagged (factory fitted). Although I do also have a wheel clamp and a Bulldog hitch lock. And I park it under a floodlight that's on a PIR motion sensor - lights up the valley when it's on. And my gate has a couple of padlocks with inbuilt alarms (from Aldi, brilliant).
 
At the end of the day, most of the physical deterrents will not stop a very determined and well-equipped thief, but the more you have, the better the chance that the thief will move on to an easier target. The best thing to remember is that you don't have to be the fastest swimmer in the pool to not get eaten by an alligator - you just have be faster than the slowest person.

Our generator is padlocked to a chain that is concreted in and we couldn't find the key when I needed to take it for a service because it wouldn't run. It did not take me long to cut through the beefy padlock with a cordless angle grinder. It's those situations that make you wonder about how good your security really is.
