Trailer service cost is this normal?

Just had my trailer serviced, not had it long so not sure what's normal but I thought it would be the same as a car when you out it in the garage, they call you, tell you what's wrong with it, what it will cost and ask permission to go ahead?
Any sway that's not what happened,
I phoned this guy and he said he'd come out for a look, there was no cost discussion on the phone
After he came I got a phone call in the evening, nothing major just a few lights etc need replacing, he then said that would be £297 and he could take payment there and then on the phone!
I was like hold on I need to see an invoice first to see what I'm paying for,
Bill came and it was for £150, £124 for the 'chassis service' and rest on some nuts or something, it then listed what else needed ordering with no prices
I'm really unsure what this £124 consists of???
He then text me the next day to say my parts have arrived and he can fit them, I was like hold on we never even had a conversation about ordering them!!
Advice please?? I know nothing about mechanics!!
 
I assume the 124 is for him to slid under and make sure there is all the bits and bobs there. Most of that will be time and mechanics charge an arm a leg and a years wage.
 
Does seem a lot, I know when I bought my trailer the ifor Williams garage said I could take it back to them for servicing which would be around £100, though I've never actually been back to them as I now have a mechanic friend who does it much cheaper.
 
Call your local agri dealer/ mechanic for an alternate quote. My bf (tractor spanner) get them in to do quite often.... Can't persuade him to get under mine though the little so&so!
 
Seems very expensive, however you should have got a quote beforehand for the basic service. My guy would have rang before doing anything.
 
Again, sounds steep. Is it a brand new trailer, or just new to you? When I bought my bateson they offered my first service for free. I'm fortunate as I have a family member who does it for free. If it's new I wouldn't have thought it would need any parts after a year.
 
My Rice is being serviced soon for £70. If anything needs doing, which Im sure it will, I wont let him do anything without my permission and a quote beforehand. Sounds like your chap has backed you in to a corner and obviously thinks he can play games with you and get away with it. Its your hard earned cash and you shouldnt be forced to part with it, so I would be insisting on a detailed quote for the work needed, and detailed invoice for the work already done. It seems to me that you have not entered into a contract with him so are not obliged to pay any more than what was initially agreed.
 
I pay about £85 for a service and parts etc are on top of that. £124 for a basic service seems steep, but I think that's something to establish before you book in, to be honest. I'd ask for an itemised breakdown of the rest, but you could easily get to another couple of hundred pounds for lights, cables, etc if a few bits need doing. Just be sure you're clear exactly what he's doing before he starts, and maybe shop around before the next service!
 
Give just paid £70 for a service on my Richardson and that includes all the basics including a new electric plug. Had to pay extra for a new brake shoe to be supplied and fitted.

Yes I should have asked on outset, not sure what to do now, hate confrontation! Asked him for a break down and he just said its on the bill, but it's not :(

He had just text to say that the £125 does not include any of the parts needed or lAbour to first them......
