ifor williams are good, but i wouldnt get a brand-new model as we have had to get virtually everything replaced on ours. eg mare pulled back and the tie-up ring came out of wall, before even string (or rope) broke. and there have been alot of simialr issues with other people i know, they look prettier but arent nearly as hard wearing as the previous model.

thanks for that. am looking for a second hand trailer, budget approx £3k. will aim for one of the older models of 510 if i go for an Ifor!

We changed our Ifor for a Richardson Supreme Excel rear facing. Horse travels like a dream in it and it is a wonderful trailer though cost almost double what we sold the ifor for!
I will be selling it soon sadly as horse is for sale too

I would try to find a Fautras - mine is fab and puts up with a mare who really bangs about when travelling without wearing.

Cheval Liberte love mine nice and roomy for the horse and if you pick up the later models you get the pullman suspension making it a dream to tow and a better ride for the horse. Have had mine from new is now 2 years old and regularly does 140 mile round trips and had no problems at all.

Batesons or Fautras. Have no experience with Richardson/Rice but heard good reports. Would only use Ifor Williams as a last resort and on short journeys - only trailer my horses have sweated on, and could not wait to get off other end!

Another here for the Bateson Ascot and we had the American style doors. Much easier and safer than a ramp and none of the horses we had in it ever had a problem stepping up

It was only the owners who thought it impossible!

Another vote for the Bateson. I have the Deuville. Mine also has the Boston doors and the horses load really well in it (including two horses that could be a bit tricky to load with the conventional ramp). Love it

I like my Bateson... my horse doesn't travel too well and I went for this as they have independent suspensions so are less bouncy than Ifors which have leaf spring suspensions (think regular car v Land Rover for being a passenger in!). Also have Boston doors, but not sure I'd go that route again. I always use the pull out ramp as my horse can be a tricky loader and I don't want to give him any excuses to scare himself and to be honest, it's a bit more a faff than just having a regular ramp.
The Deauville and Ascot are the same size stall and height (take 2 x 17hh I think), but the Ascot has the fancy built in locker thingy at the front which makes them longer.
