Trailer suitable for a Honda CR-V

I am looking at a Honda CR-V 55-plate diesel as a good middle of the road car that will fulfill my 30,000 mile a year job, will cope with a rural lifestyle and will tow a lightweight TB and does not cost the earth to buy!

What trailer would you recommend with these? I was told the payload of the car was 1,800kg- after some research I believe I can tow just under 1,500kg (roughly 80% of 1,800kg).

In light of the recent Robinson's and Cheval Liberte debacle- does anyone have any recommendations or advice? Are the single horse trailers as unstable as they used to be? Would a mare and foal trailer be a better trailer?

Maybe worth having a look at a bateson ???

The single trailer by Ifor Williams is about 900Kg so you would need to be careful to ensure the tack, hay and horse do not exceed 600Kg. Bateson do some really nice trailers. I have the Derby which is a 625kg unladen trailer as as long as you dont load more than 1025 (its maximum carrying capacity I think)onto it you'll be fine. Really nice and light to manouver on the yard and quality seems good.

Ifor Williams do a 767kg single horse box. With a horse of roughly 545kg that makes a total of 1312kg. That leaves some space for tack and stuff.

Does anybody know of the HB403 (?) is a good safe box? Do Richardsons do a good alternative?

We used to tow a Bateson with a CR-V, but ours was the petrol version, your diesel is better for towing. Having said that it was effortless, but I wouldn't have towed anything heavier with our CR-V as its maximum was 1500kg. I think you can tow up to 2000kg with a diesel so an Ifor plus one horse might be an option.

I assume you have a B+E licence so that leaves you with quite a few options

You can choose any trailer up to 3.5 tonnes MAM
You will be restricted to a total towing weight of 1.5 tonnes

As the bigger the trailer MAM will usually mean the heavier the trailer is when empty so perhaps looking around for trailers around 1.5 to 2.0 tonnes MAM is the best idea

Work out the weight of what you want to carry in the trailer (example 800kgs) then see if there is a trailer that weighs 700kgs empty
