Trailer test, how long did it take you?

How many hours of lessons did it take you to pass your test ?
I have had an assessment with an instructor who thought it would take me 3 or 4 half days, which at £150 per half day is a LOT of money for me.
Just wondering if this was standard?

That sounds quite steep. I have looked into it as just bought a trailer myself (though to be fair have only touched on the subject of the trailer test as yet, so no real research) and have seen courses in the region of £300 for a 3 day course.

Will watch this thread with interest as I really want to do it before the end of this year.
 
Wow that's not many hours then. I'm good at towing trailers and I can reverse confidently I just need to learn to drive like a learner again and learn the correct procedures for doing things.
The instructors initial reaction was that I need 4 half days then test on the 5th. When I said that's more than I expected he said he wouldn't recommend any less than 3 but it was up to me how few I wanted. Baring in mind the test alone is £115 it's not something I want to mess up.
 
god I must be the worst driver/tower in the history of time!! had about 12h of lessons, many hours of practicing and three tests before I passed....!!

had first couple of lessons in May 12, bought trailer nov 12 for practicing and then resumed lessons in May 13 before tests in July/August 13.

lessons were with local instructor so quite cheap (by the end he was giving me free lessons, I think the poor chap was so exasperated!)
 
Near me its about £650 for 3 half days with test on day 3 all inclusive


That can be less if the candidate already has reversing experience and has practiced driving the DSA style

SUPERVISING A B+E LEARNER
In April 2010 new rules were introduced for those supervising certain learner drivers but they only affected those supervising VOCATIONAL categories such as C1 C1+E D1 & D1+E where the supervising driver had those categories given to them for free when they passed a pre 1997 car test.
They do not affect those with a pre 1997 B+E licence who wish to supervise a B+E learner.
All B licence holders have B+E provisional on the paper part of their licence and can tow an empty or loaded trailer on all roads including motorways.
The usual rules apply when a learner is driving -
The supervising driver must be aged over 21
The supervising driver must have held a B+E licence for at least 3 years
L plates must be fitted to the front of the vehicle and the rear of the trailer
Correct insurance for a B+E learner

The B+E test
No medical or theory test required
Read a number plate from a certain distance
VIDEO - Show Me Tell Me Questions - usually 5
The next three can be in any order:-
VIDEO - Reversing Exercise - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
DSA REVERSING TEST AREA DIAGRAM
VIDEO - Uncouple/couple up - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
One hour road drive - includes the independent drive and is done virtually the same as the basic car test

The trailer must now be loaded with 600 kgs of sand bags or a 1000 kgs water IBC for the test so most companies are now training with that weight in the trailer

This is interesting BUT NOT RECOMMENDED – a B licence towing set up can be presented for the B+E test but L plates must be used for the test. So you can train yourself, go to test by yourself, fit L plates, do the test, then, pass or fail, remove L plates and drive away by yourself.

Yeah to be honest it was good learning the practicalities of reversing and procedures for the actual test and how to drive the reverse and hitch up trailer. Then is was really about the driving and driver awareness. I'm
quite a conscientious driver anyway so that part was no problem but I think that's actually where a lot of people fall down due to bad habits.

My instructor booked my initial lesson and said we'd take it from there and see how many would be required instead of an actual course.
 
I had 3 day course. £650 with 2 days driving and test on third day.

This was ment to be shared, but the other person pulled out on the first day so got very good value and passed first time.

Horses for Courses tho I think every person is different
