Hi, Anyone recently taking ther trailer test? How much will it cost, and on adverage do you have a few lessons and then test??? Anyone done this, please share what happens and adverage prices??

I haven;t taken it, but found out a bit about it. Generally advised you have a minimum of 3 day intensive course with instructor (given only 50% pass rate, probably quite wise!), however have yet to have a quote for less than £380 for this!! The test itself costs £110, so all in all quite expensive, but has to be done at some point i guess. Hope that helps

i did mine about a month ago (and passed yey

)
the test itself cost £89, and i had seven hours of tuition costing £25 an hour, so didnt work out that expensive
you have to do a reversing excersize and park the trailer in a bay, uncouple and couple up on your own, controlled stop, and then drive on the roads for about an hour
sounds quiet scary, but I had a good instructor that prepared me well, and it wasnt too bad

ring around and see what instructors you can find, imo the ones that do package deals and days of intensive training are very expensive, but i suppose it depends on how much tuition you need.
good luck

the trailer test training did my head in!! i havent actaully taken my test, but had lessons before as i didnt want to risk learning with my neddy in the back!!

you have to do a manouver harder than i have ever been required to do since, and my instructor was insistent on me going full to the speed limit and then braking harshly at traffic lights/roundabouts etc, if i did that i would end up with my neddy in the car with me!!

it was expensive, and was going to set me back another couple of hundred to do the test, but i guess if you want to tow on your own then it has to be done

My top tip would be get yourself a good instructor. I didn't do any practising until I'd had some proper lessons. My husband tows all the time and is old enough not to have done a test and obviously so is my dad, but I didn't want to learn their bad habits. They are very strict on the test.

Generally the test isn't hard ,but you have to be good at the basic's of driving. I require students to take 2 days minimum training to cover the syllabus. Students who fail do so due to lack of confidents or knowledge of vehicle or trailer or The Highway Code. Student make silly mistakes,i.e; not looking where their going when reversing, not checking lights etc when re-coupling, not checking trailer brake is on before hitching up. Lane discipline at roundabouts, keeping within speed limits and signalling correctly. All basic stuff you can practise in your everyday driving.
