When you do your test, is it similar to the car test - your instructor goes with you, then an examiner takes you out? Do they tell you where to go/what to do?

Like when you parallel parked, you were able to go forward a set amount of times to help 'fix' it if you went wrong slightly.

How long does the test last for? Is it like the driving test - a set amount of minors?

What things will they be looking out for? They say driving has to be good - so looking out of mirrors etc. but what about when attaching the trailer/pulling away etc.?

As much info as possible on the specifics would be good.

Thank you

I did mine and found it just as terrifying as the car test. The examiner tells u where to go and has his tick list. I don't know how many minors etc ... As when they told me I passed I just wanted to go home and have a stiff drink lol. I think mine lasted about 40 mins.

The B+E test
No medical or theory test required
Read a number plate from a certain distance
VIDEO - Show Me Tell Me Questions - usually 5
The next three can be in any order:-
VIDEO - Reversing Exercise - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
VIDEO - Uncouple/couple up - done in test centre grounds if test conducted from practical test centre - some tests are now being done from training school grounds
One hour road drive - includes the independent drive and is done virtually the same as the basic car test

DISCLAIMER - I have no connection to any companies which may be featured in those videos

This is interesting BUT NOT RECOMMENDED – a B licence towing set up can be presented for the B+E test but L plates must be used for the test. So you can train yourself, go to test by yourself, fit L plates, do the test, then, pass or fail, remove L plates and drive away by yourself.
DSA B+E TEST AND VEHICLE/TRAILER REQUIREMENTS

SUPERVISING A B+E LEARNER
In April 2010 new rules were introduced for those supervising certain learner drivers but they only affected those supervising VOCATIONAL categories such as C1 C1+E D1 & D1+E where the supervising driver had those categories given to them for free when they passed a pre 1997 car test.
They do not affect those with a pre 1997 B+E licence who wish to supervise a B+E learner.
All B licence holders have B+E provisional on the paper part of their licence and can tow an empty or loaded trailer on all roads including motorways.
The usual rules apply when a learner is driving -
The supervising driver must be aged over 21
The supervising driver must have held a B+E licence for at least 3 years
L plates must be fitted to the front of the vehicle and the rear of the trailer
Correct insurance for a B+E learner

You are expected to drive as you would in a driving test, mirror signal manuvure , ten and two etc. you will do two manuvures, one reverse (you are aloud to pull forwards twice and get out and check once, if you hit the yellow barriers or are not withing the margins you fail. The second manuvure is the hitch and unhitch. Your instructor will go through this with you as it has to be in the correct order. You will also do a drive round and the same as a driving test you will either take directions or do an independent drive following road signs and they may ask you to pull over and pull away etc. you are expected to take lanes into consideration with the trailer making sure it is clear where you are going.
You are not expected to drive like you are carrying livestock. I did three full days lessons and the test on the end of the third day.

Don't forget the emergency stop.

Found the trailer test the most scary thing I have done, although it was 8 years previous that I had taken my car test. Would highly recommend to anyone learning to drive a car - do your trailer test as soon as possible after, before you have to many years of driving and pick up bad habits which are then hard to get out of!!!

I did mine last year, past with no minors found it was raiser than when I sat car test 17 years ago but then not being a new driver it's far easier as you know road rules etc.

I found I sailed through it, had 1 days training then test best morning .

Don't fret I'd say unless you did something stupid you would be hard pushed to fail it.
