I know this subject has been broached in the past but i am in need of taking my trailer test.
Its so expensive and id like to have a small intense course followed by the test with maybe a gaurenteed pass structure added to it. Has anyone done there trailer test? And where did you take it?
How much did it cost you?
Obviously the cheaper the better and the nearer to me the better however i am willing to travel if it is a package that suits me.
Id love the contact details please
Thank you everyone
PM me if you'd rather

Did mine a couple of years ago, 3 day course with the test on afternoon of 3rd day. Passed easily as instruction was very good! I went to a specialist Training centre in Reading (so probably to far for you) but think there are plenty around. They were fantastic, incidently, went back and did my HGV with them this year!

Cost about £500 all in. And it is all about how you drive, as well as the actual trailer - using mirrors correctly, being in right gear etc.
Just a word of warning re guaranteed pass - they can't guarantee you a pass, obviously. What this 'scheme' involves in many cases is that they will give a free retest, but no further training to help you sort out whatever caused you to fail in the first place. So you can end up just taking test after test, and it being longer and longer since you had any instruction.

yeah i know theres no real gaurentees (bummer) but i was thinking of cost saving if i was to fail. I am confident with driving my trailer and am happy reversing and using my mirrors, i occassionally need a little shuffle to get it into my space up the yard but it can be tight with all the cars. My biggest worry's are i dont drive my trailer enough because i need my parents to be around so im legal and the other is im sure they'll be a technical side to it i.e. having hands at ten to two all the time etc so i need a small intense course to learn all of that. Im sure i'll pass first time with the right tuition as im confident and what you've described sounds like they are brilliant.
Reading a bit far yes but interesting to know it was around £500.
Thanks for your information

I was the same - confident and had done lots of driving, reversing etc, but there is all sorts of stuff about exact road position etc that we all forget about after doing our original driving tests!! But it was good and well worth doing to have the independence!
Good luck!

im going to book my test after seeing my orthapaedic surgeon tomorrow. Test costs £89 and the instruction wher I go is £230 p/d. Im lucky as I only need 1 lesson before my test as ive been driving on L plates for a while. My instructor is really happy with how I drive so thinks I should pass straight away.
If after my assessment I needed more then I wouldve gone for a crash course.

I dont think that the driving is as strict as your first test. my instructor hasnt commented on the 10 and 2 but what he has said is that you cant let the wheel slip through your hands after a turn, you cant cross your hands when turning. Hes given me lots of tips and my mum has been in the car when I had my assessment so when I go out with her shes telling me what to do when I go wrong.

If you go on the dvla website you should be able to find your nearest test centre and trainingg centres near to where you live. My test centre only seems to have 1 wk queue for booking which is great, unlike about 3 months for a car test

i was planning on doing my cat C (lorry) test but im not so sure now if i should do the trailer test! i didnt really want a 4X4 as my main vehicle as i dont yet know where i will be going to work!

I've ended up having to do both as we had atrailer originally, now upgraded to a lorry. V pricey!!
But worth doing.
I can't remember exactly what they said re trailer test but I know with the cat C, they are actually stricter than they are for the car licence, as they look at you as a professional / career driver!

Don't know about trailer test but my oh is in the middle of his hgv training at the moment (test on Wednesday). You need to take a medical and theory test before you start a 5 day intensive course with test at the end of it. Cost around £1000
He's been driving over 40 years (gulp!) and is doing fine - lots of new things to learn though!
PS Keep off the roads of Enfield and Chingford around lunchtime on Weds!

ive only got the 1 horse but we do carriage driving which is why i would prefer a lorry over a trailer either a 3.5t (new type) with a towbar for the carriage or a 7.5t with plenty of room to have him and carriage. it's just so costly & for the miles im going to be doing (not many) i dont know what to do!!

Totally understand, we have similar prob in a way, in that most of the time it is just me and my 430kg arab, so we were fine in trailer or could have had a van conversion 3.5t box. But oh's horse is not far of 700kgs (16.3 ID) and just didn't fit in the ifor 505, and my SWB pajero started feeling a bit ustable with the two horses behind. Plus it isn't the most reliable of cars and costs a fortune in diesel! So we decided to make a £5k investment so that OH cold bring his horse out and about, did my test for just over £1000, lorry for £3500 and insurance/tax. So far has been worth it, fingers crossed, although as per other post now having to take OH's mare everywhere as my little horse has decided he doen't load anymore!!
Good luck with you decision!
