Really dumb question alert!!
Trailer ties. Does anyone use one?
I normally tie up quite short with the leadrope to twine on the loop but these look better suited.
Am i right in thinking that the panic clip (circled blue) ties on to the headcollar and the other bit onto the trailer ring?
Also when using one of these do you just unclip and remove your leadrope? Or use that aswell? Screenshot_20220406-161655_Gallery.jpg

We use these in our horsebox. They live permanently clipped to the tie ring, red end. Lead horse in, clip on blue end, remove lead rope .
Used them for years, perfect, never a problem.

I used these once. Had a panic situation, the thing pinged off and nearly knocked me out because it was so elastic. It’s a NO from me.
I have a lead rope already tied on twine on the ring and just unclip horses lead rope when I put them in and clip to rope all ready in there.

I use quick release both ends and ones which aren’t elsticated which I think the Shires ones are. They still get attached to a piece of shredded bailer twine though both inside and outside the trailer and came from Kramer as they were the only place I could find double ended quick release ties.

We use these in our trailer too, they are there permanently. However, we use the blue end on the tie ring (on bailer twine) and the red end to clip on the the headcollar. We sometimes leave the leadrein on and tie it to the haynet (if the pony is likely to nip under/over the breast bar we tie them once under and once over), and sometimes take it off altogether.

I too have a ready tied rope in the box, I clip on and remove lead rope. I have 2 sharp cutting implements in the box (1 at each end) not used on mine but have had to wield one for another person

No pingy things permitted within my parameters due to seeing what damage one did.

Blue end on headcollar for me, someone once said if the horse went down or something you'd need the quick release end nearest them so you can quickly untie the head. I've also used the red end on bailer twine but I imagine you can go directly to the ring

this is what I do too except the Haynet bit.

As others I used the red end on trailer/trailer partition but attached to baler twine on the tie ring (just as an added precaution but I don't think it's necessary really). I always removed the lead rope too or attached it to the underside of her noseband if we were waiting for a class.

I clip mine the other way around I think it would be easier to pull the release trigger downwards and safer if the horse is struggling as further away. Plus if they get loose there’s a dangly bit to grab. However I’m sure there’s not a lot in it either way. I do also clip it to baler twine.

I use something similar from a lady on eBay. Theyre adjustable length like the leg straps on a rug. Quick release snap at the horse end, normal trigger clip at the trailer end, attached to shredded bailer twine. I lead on with the leadrope, cross tie using two of the ties, and take the leadrope off (it travels on the front seat with me in the car). I wouldn't want elastic ones, that just seems to be asking for me or horse to get smacked in the head with a flying clip.

I have a lead rope permanently tied into the trailer with one of those clips in the end. They are not designed to come loose when a horse pulls back, they have to have human intervention. If one has come loose on someone it is normally because it is defective.

They are designed so that if a horse pulls back you pull down on the bottom of the clip and it comes loose.

I just took one of those out of my trailer, youngster was quite panicy with it. Replaced with idolo tie, (and lead rope already in trailer ready tom just clip to headcollar) which she's used to tieing up with when not on the trailer

After a similar near miss, I won't have anything elastic either. The power behind one when a horse stretches it has to be seen to be believed. You could be knocked out or the horse lose an eye.

In any case, if you do use one, the panic clip has to be on the horse, so at least it will lash back, away from the horse if you have to release it when under tension. It is a pain that way, as the panic clip is harder to do up and will need two hands every time, but preferable to the potential disaster of doing it the other way round.

I use similar, but without the elastic. I hard tie (no bale string etc) but one end is a panic clip.
