If you take your towing test in an automatic car, can you only tow with an automatic car?

Or can you take the test in an automatic and then tow with a manual?

Definitely, I sat mine in auto first and failed and was strongly advised to sit it in a manual- even though I currently tow with an auto

Chickeninabun:- All drivers who passed a car test before 1 January 1997 retain their existing entitlement to tow trailers until their licence expires. This means they are generally entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8.25 tonnes MAM. They also have entitlement to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kgs MAM.

So if you passed your test after that date you'll need to take a trailer test.
