Hi all,

This has probably been done to death!!

Just want to check I am within the legal requirement on my towing combination.

2015 Kia sorento Manual, 2,500 Tow Capacity.

Cheval liberty xl diagonal 2 horse trailer. Unladen weight 960kg

1x 14.2hh gypsy cob, weighing (at his heaviest) 620kg on weigh tape, I know these are not accurate and so I'm thinking 650kg (extreme) if he's on the weight bridge.

Plus tack and equipment incl 1x water drum half full usually. Normally just myself as driver, occasionally 1 passenger.

Is this legally safe and correct to tow?

Thanks x

What is in the car goes under the vehicle GVW not the trailer MAM
960+640=1600 so well under the max 2500 tow capacity and I imagine is also well under the max trailer plated weight (MAM)
I also assume you have a B+E on licence?

The plate on the trailer shows under the Chassis number 2600kg is this the trailers MAM?
Worried now as that is more than my cars 2500kg tow capacity.

The trailer unladen I should of typed 980kg and not 960kg

Yes I have my B&E license. Also have my Class 2 license ??

2600 could well be the trailer MAM
No problem with only having max 2500 tow capacity
Lets say trailer is 1000 empty then the max you can load in it is 1500

No law or rule states that the max tow of a vehicle must be at least the trailer plated MAM
You just work with the lowest of the weights
