Hi All

So thanks to your replies it would appear my best options are a Wessex Olympian or a Richardson Supreme Ultra as they have the most headroom. I am guessing a Rice B60 might also do the trick but the TB didnt like me old Rixce so guessing thats a non-starter. Bobbly said about a triple as she could change in the friont and use it for storage, which sounds like a good idea as I do like the space I have with the Equitrek.

Does anyone have anymore hints/tips on Wessex or Richardsons? And what about triples? I don't think I have ever seen one so no idea where to start with those!!

(Just to recap, I have a 17.1hh with a very high head carriage who smacks his head when getting into my Equitrek L, and the world most obstinate TB who will only load when HE chooses to load but is more keen on loading if its big/roomy/white/looks like an airplane (no really, he loads onto a plane just fine (apparently), just has an opinion on anything else:rolleyes:))

This is Bobs standing backwards in my Wessex triple trailer, nice for when at a show as he can watch the world and eat his hay outside! I'm not one for leaving them tied to the trailer for long, only when tacking up really. Inside mine the top half is pale grey, the front section of roof is fibreglass and very light, the partitions swing both front and rear like an Ifor and the padding is beige over black stokboard so quite light and airy, has three windows at the front. Only wish it had windows that open but they could be added on the sides or in the rear doors as it is flat panel at the top. You can just also see, it has options for stall length both front and rear so I tend to stand him in the forward option when travelling but at 17hh you'll need the extra space I guess.

Thanks - thats really handy. And what a good idea to put him in so he can have a munch and a look about! I never even thought about a triple before! I did think about a 3.5t box but I borrowed one to pick the new boy up in and it was lovely but I felt like I was driving a little tin death trap!! The feeling of a very large horse bottom 6 inches from my head just didnt do it for me really. And they seem so wobbly!!

I assume that the Triple can come in the same height as the Olympian??

*scurries off to check website*

Anyone else? I know he went in a Chaigley Duo just fine but that had a 7'10 head height. Nearest I can find so far is a Richardson Supreme Ultra at 7'64 so ideally I am out by 4 inches. I am really starting to worry now as I don't want him to stop being willing to load which he will be if he keeps smacking his head.

Help!!

Trailers are a head height of 7' 6" whether Richardson Ultra or a Rice B60 or Equitrek L or a Wessex or an IFW 511.

You get 8 foot headroom in a box.

When you say he smacks his head going in have you considered training him to lower this head carriage with a pressure halter?

The main parts for Richardson are still available it is the cosmetic bits that are harder to come by .... you just need to know who to ask ;-)

No, tbh I havent BUT when he stands on the ramp and almost goes in, he looks too big to get in if that makes sense? I measured the inside and despite it being a 'L' the internal measurement is 7'31/2, which is between the 2 sizes. We bought it secondhand so I suspect it has had something done to the floor which has reduced the height, although when we had it checked we were not told that it had. And its more the lintel he has an issue with. I know for a fact he has loaded happily into an IW511 so I could use that as a starting point. I just thought it would help to get the biggest head clearance we could. I don't really want to go down the box route as they are money pits IME! Happy to try the pressure halter thing but what I dont want is to get him in there, it turn out to be too small and then he panics and I don't even want to think about how that will end up...

I've got the Olympian and takes a big tb and draft x no problem. It's a galvanised steel chassis and fibreglass roof. The padded partitions make a huge difference and they are galvanised steel, so very secure. I find its a solid trailer mine loads well into it and he prefers a box so does have the odd sticky moment.
