I have just bought my first trailer a Ifor HB505 and am transporting a single young 14hh cob.
We have been travelling with the partition in, loaded on the right, breast and breech bars in the lowest and shortest positions but our bendy young pony is still managing to get his head under the breast bar. On 3 occasions when we’ve arrived at our destination he is stood with his head wedged under the bar. He doesn’t panic but I feel this is extremely unsafe. If I tie him high up on the right side he’s getting the trailer tie across his head and fighting to get free, tying lower on the left seems to make no difference as he gets under the bar even easier. Have tried using trailer tie and lead rein, both only just long enough to reach his haynet. We have a safety breakaway to tie on to. We have also had multiple practice sessions for loading and tying at the yard where he’s ok.
Have thought of a full width breast bar and cross tying as a possible solution. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Desperate for suggestions to find a solution please?

You can still basically cross tie with the partition in- I tie high on the right and lower on the left to keep my wriggler more secure. Don’t give much slack in either rope- the haynet might be too far away so either take it out for the actual journey or find a way of getting it closer

When I travel smaller ponies in my trailer I hang a large full width piece of plywood from the breastbar (I don't use the partition). I just drilled some holes along the top edge and tie it on with thick baler twine.

If i travel with a partition in i'd just tie up shortish on the one side, if i travel without the partition i would cross tie. Maybe take the haynet out if you can't tie close enough for pony to reach as it sounds like thats what they are trying to get to. Does pony wear shoes? You might be able to tie the haynet to where the breast bar attached to the trailer or in the centre where the bars meet if pony can't reach it up high. You will have to risk assess this yourself though.

I made a hanging part stock board & carpet bottom which I hang in the spare hole in front of the where the breast bar hangs on. The stock board is bolted to a piece of box steel with holes drilled in and I drop clips in. We made it for the appaloosa nob horse that did the same as yours and it works a treat . I use it with my new more sensible cob as well. I will try and remember to take a picture for you.

Picture of what I tried to explain. It is easy to use and works for me.

He doesn’t wear shoes but if we’re travelling alone I think I will take the partition out and invest in full width bars so he has more room.
