Hi, I have purchased a second hand Rice trailer, I am planning on a complete refit.
All the tyres are going to be replaced, existing tyres are size 155 80 R13.
I have no idea what are the best sort of tyre for a trailer, anyone any advice before I start ringing round on tuesday.

Yup. I would think you'd need tyres that are rated to take the heavier weight :)

I had a non-weight rated tyre on my Disco. Had been through at least two MOTs like that. Went to it one morning and the tyre had split along the beading :o :( Although it was a big tyre, it wasn't rated for the weight of a 4x4 :(. Had to buy a new set.
 
You need special tyres on a horse trailer, they need to have reinforced walls to take the extra weight. If you google that code you have taken off the tyres you should be able to find what they are.
 
If you contact your local tyre fitters they will advise you on the correct tyres. You will probably find that car tyres do not have the right weight rating for trailers however van tyres may have, but be guided by the tyre fitters.
 
We are the same as you and have an older rice trailer

The tyres need to be van cargo tyres I don't know the technical garb (OH would) but van cargo tyres are capable of dealing with heavy weight exerted by a laden trailer, normal car tyres are not.

We went to our local tyre place, told him what we needed them for and he told us what we needed. They do cost more than standard tyres but smile nicely and maybe he will have something he can do a good deal for you with, We ended up getting ours for about £60 each (If I remember correctly) should have been about £90.

Thinking maybe we should start a thread for older rice trailer owners, was it you that recently posted about replacement flooring...that's the next item on our to do list. Current floor is fine but wood and OH worries so it will be getting an aluminium floor soon
