Hi,

I'm looking for a trailer and my friends father has one that he rarely uses so he said that we can buy it off him.

Trailer is an Ivor Williams. Not sure how old it is but it has a wooden floor which is sound. It is a bit tatty (not a big deal as we would be repainting the outside panels but inside is a little green!!!) and it is missing the breach bars (has chains wrapped in insulating foam) so I would need to get replacements.

He hasn't set a price so does anyone got any idea how much I should offer?

Thanks.

If it's got a serial number (on the draw bar), phone Ifor Williams or their nearest agent and ask them. At least they might tell you the age. I've always found them very helpful. You might also look at completed auctions on Ebay. I've occasionally been guilty of phoning a dealer and pretending I've got one to sell and ask how much they will give me for it (and usually get a shock!).

Ooo thank you Dry Rot. Will ring IW on Monday

I have had several looks on ebay over the last few weeks and they all seem to be in rotten condition or very goodcondition so it was hard to estimate a price for this one.

I had a figure of £800 - £1000 in mind so im glad I wasnt to wide of the mark.

The green mouldy/lichen-y type stuff thats all over it (it never got used much) does that come off easily???

Yes power hose it and it will come up lovely, just make sure u pull the rubber back and double check the floor! My 505 was about ten years old and you Could stick a screwdriver though the floor it was that soft but no holes so from underneath I thought it was fine!!

Also check the inside of the wheel rims.

I bought an old trailer with a good floor but had to take a wheel off for some reason. The inside of the rim was rusty so I hit it with a hammer to knock the rust off. The hammer went through! The rims were dangerously rotten with rust! Bought a set of "shop soiled" rims from my local dealer for £10 per rim, job done.

Thank you!

My dad is a mechanic and i do the odd day with him so we are going to give it a good look over again and if we buy it we will give it a good service.
