Trailer vs Horsebox

Horsebox for us
two very large horses
plenty of storage lockers, also saves time packing and unpacking
10- 14 nights of stopovers a year
somewhere to change and sit in comfort
someowhere to make refreshements
more stable on Mway journeys,so good ride for horses

We use cheapie economical car for commuting and runabout which saves more than £20 a week in fuel, c/w a big 4x4 thereby making up for the basic 'keep' of the lorry

Trailer for me!
Never stop over anywhere & if I did for how many times it would happen there are usually facilities for horse & we could stay at B&B.
Can get everything I use into tack pack & car if needed.
Dont tax or insure it!
If I was to buy lorry I could only afford an old one so run the risk of it potentially not starting.
A trailer is easy to hitch & go.
Plus, if I paid out for a lorry I would feel obliged to take it out every week to justify having one!
For me, a trailer is a cheaper all round option. (My car is a Daihatsu Fourtrak so not a huge gas guzler!)

I have a 3.5t horsebox, its the only thing I can drive on my licence

I much prefer boxes, they are more stable than trailers and as someone has already said theres no need to unpack everything everytime you come home.
Mine isnt expensive to run and it wouldnt be economical for me to drive a 4x4 everyday, especially as I work in Leeds!

I have only one horse and have a 7.5 ton lorry. Used to have a trailer but decided to give a lorry a go and now i wouldn't change. Feels safer to drive on the motorways and is somewhere nice to go when raining, plus don't have to keep loading and unloading stuff.
Didn't pay a lot for it and it's been brilliant

i have both, i only use lorry when i need to sleep over as its so big, trailers quick and easy to get around to local shows

You dont always have to unpack everything when you get home with a trailer. We bought a second hand jeep which lives on the trailer! Its only taken off if we need to use it if another car is broken or during snow. So all my horse stuff lives in the back seats and boot of it! With the trailer, because I only take 1 horse (2 are horrid together!) I put stuff in the other side of the partition like extra hay / rug box etc. Our trailer also has a tack locker built in so tack is stored away easily. Trailers also dont need all the expense like plating / MOT's etc.!

TBH I would of course love Whittaker lorry, but for what I do, I dont need one. Yes, I do spend the odd night huddled in sleeping bags in the trailer for far-away events but dont do it often enough to warrant a lorry for it. We also use our trailer for non-horsey things so it is very useful.
