Hi all!
I just need a sense-check on this… I have a UK driving licence (passed in July so <1yr if relevant), which includes a BE licence (see pic). Everything I read tells me that it allows me to trailer up to a total max weight of 3.5t, which should be just about fine for a Skoda Superb + 1 horse trailer and 16.1 athletic but thin-built mare, right?
I just can’t quite bring myself to believing it, as in France (where said horse and car are located), you need an additional licence and test to be allowed to do so (B96 up to 3.5t, BE up to 4.2t).
The mother found herself in the situation where, being a bit clueless and badly advised, she’d been driving her 2-horse trailer without the appropriate licence for a solid couple of years. She’s now switched to a lighter trailer and is in the process of getting the correct licence, but failed on first try and the next exam session isn’t for a while. Not too mention that she’s not getting any younger and trailering anywhere between 8-12h to comps and back on her own really takes its toll.
I’m home for the next event - would I be OK picking up some of the driving? Ideally mostly motorway/simple straight roads stretches, as ultimately I have 0 experience of driving anything bigger than an estate, although I’ll try and squeeze in some trailering lessons and definitely a couple of empty runs before we set off.
