Trailers for 17hh horses? (Cheval Liberte especially)

Would you tow a 17hh horse with a Cheval Liberte XL? Internal height is 2550mm/7'5'.

According to the specs this should be fine - The Bateson trailers are only 7'3' in headroom and claims to take a 17.2hh horse, and the Ifor Williams 510/511 is only 2260mm internally and also claims to happily take a 17.2hh but I am just a bit wary.

Any experiences?
 
No experience of that trailer. My 17hh goes in a ifor 510. How wide is it? I know that is my horses issue with spreading her legs to balance.
 
Yes I would .

Sol (coloured in siggie) is just under 17hhs and she happily travelled in the standard CL trailer with a friend . The XL's are HUGE so I would have no problems with it

Bateson Deauville & Ascot actually claim they will take up to 17h NOT 17h2" (check their website). Ive seen a 17h horse in a bateson & they are right it will take it.

There is plenty of room in an Ifor 510, but it is hard to get ours out. As he is the larger horse of the two he travels on the right, and because the ramp is also on the right it is too tight an angle for him to get out, so we have had to back him out. Not ideal - personally, I'd consider others in future.
 
with the cheval liberte be careful because i found they were tall but not very wide, i had a 16.3hh that hated going in them because they were narrow but would travel in an infor fine.
 
My 17.1hh travels in my Ifor Williams 510 easily alongside my friend's 16hh horse. They don't have a problem with the angle to get out although I can see how a larger horse (or chunkier) probably would.
Had no experience with the Cheval Liberte but would also be interested to hear other people's views as an owner of a large horsey!
 
Good point re width - the IW 511 is 1750 wide and the Cheval Liberte XL is 1672 and Bateson 1650.

However, due to my driving licence I can't tow two anyway so BigMare will be going on her own -though if boyfriend is driving hopefully 17hh mare and my 16.1hh can fit in together. I guess it all depends on the horses in the end.

Just in case Sooty doesn't see this, I think it is something to do with balancing the trailer properly taking into account the camber of the road surface. It is the same reason why a single horse should travel on the right if there is still a partition in the trtailer.
I'm sure someone will put me right/add to this if I'm wrong!

It is indeed to do with the camber, as all roads slope away towards the outside edge.

I think our horse has difficulty as he is not only large, but a self-harmer who could come to grief in a padded room...

My mare is plain awkward, I have to travel her on the wrong side if she's on her own. She goes behind the passenger regardless as for some reason she self harms if she's behind the driver!!

Anyway with regards the CL - the unloading will be easier as the front ramp is on the left and the head guard swings over. My horses rattle around in it as we have the 2003xl and ours are 16hh max though the 16hh is VERY wide and fits in fine. I also moved some horses for a friend and a whopping great Cleveland bay fit in fine though boy I felt it towing!

Wouldn't swap mine. I like the Rice Richardsons mind, but I'd never have an ifor. One of the ponies at the farm had a really bad accident in their ifor and ended up on the floor and too terrified to go in it again - and all I hear is stories like this re: horses not liking the aluminium floors?
 
Hi i have a big 17hh irish and a 16'2 suffolk punch x and they both go into my ifor 510 with room to spare.
