I have a three year old ID x thats over 17.2hh presently, so I am looking to replace my for williams 506 with a new larger trailer. More for his head height, as he's quite close coupled and currently wears 6'6 rugs. Any ideas as they all say 17.2hh and dont have a licence to drive a 7.5t lorry!

Any ideas very welcome!!

PS I have a VW Touareg that says towing capacity of 3500kg, which is the same as a range rover, so any trailer should be ok to tow (hopefully!)

You may run into type approval probs but if the rest of him fits is it worth seeing if someone will engineer a higher roof on yr current trailer?. I'm thinking a galvanised frame to sit on to to give more height.

A good agri engineer might have a view on that.

I used to travel my 17.2hh in an Ifor Williams 510 without the partition and he had plenty of head room and length, he was 7ft in rugs. He didn't have a particularly high head carriage though and the other thing was he used to flick his tail over the back of the ramp and I did worry that he'd poo out the back 😂

I used to get my two Irish Draughts in a Richardson Supreme Excel. He was 18hh and she is 17:2hh. Plenty headroom, plenty width.

We travel our 18hh IDs in a Rice B60 trailer and also a Rice Richardson B60 - plenty of headroom and sufficiently sturdily built to withstand any bumps or thumps for their big feet!
