I have around 4,000 - 4,500K to spend on a new or second hand trailer. Wanting to know which ones are recommended for a massive IDx who gets a little claustrophobic! (not silly with it though). I would prefer rear facing. STERDY is the most important and not rattley or tinny (if that makes sense!!).

Have seen a ricerichardson? what are they like?

Thanks All!

Rice B60 is really good, tows well and horses travel really well in it.
Plenty of room to get them out the front ramp as well.

If your horse isn't struck on small spaces, consider getting the full breeching and chest bars and travel without a partition. Makes a huge difference with some horses, even the not-so-large ones!

Our supposed 17.2hh, he is actually 17.3hh cant fit in the ifor 510, not even by himself.

When he brought him home he was actually too big for the lorry, his tail had rubbed because he didnt have enough room with him having to stand sideways!

I would love to find a trailer big enough for him and our 16.2hh too, I even looked at the Equitrek ones at Bramham, but nothing seems big enough.

Well sorry, I can beat you!!! My lad was 18'3hh and very, very long. He was really unhappy in lorries as he could never stand completely herringbone and was always too long for forward facing. In the end we bought an Ifor Wililams 510 Classic and he was completely happy in that. I never had a problem with him loading or travelling, and I didn't even need to take the partition out.
Unfortunately I lost him last Christmas. My trailer is actually for sale if you are interested, PM me. xx

Really he fit into the 510? I havent tried my boy in one because his previous owner said he wouldnt fit, but if your 18.3hh fit in then my boy surely will, worth bearig in mind for the future if I win the lottery LOL.

Yep, he loved his trailer. People used to laugh when I opened the top of the front ramp so he could look out, this huge head used to lean down on everyone ! hee hee. He honestly travelled really well in this, and terribly in lorries. He was not fussed if his ears touched the roof, but as a rule as he was soooo tall, he was used to putting his head down for doorways etc. I used to tie his hay up low as well so he had room to pull at the hay. Don't always take everyones word for it, maybe you should try your boy in a friends and see how he goes

Well I dont know anyone with one now but when I brought him home a friend had one, but as I was assured he wouldnt fit in it by his owner, I paid the extra £200 to have him brought up in a 'professional' lorry, eek!

And it was to small for him ha ha.

Aww bless your boy, what a star.

i have the ifor 510 classic and it is huge. you get extra sliding windows on the front and a sun roof so he would love it. my 16.3 goes in no problems with lots of headroom and sticks her nose out the window so invest in the extra bars that they fit at about 20-30 pounds

I have the Rice B60 as my horse found the beaufort i had too small. It has gone up in price since I bought it

and is a bit above your budget but if you could pick up a secondhand one they are really good solid, sturdy boxes. The only problem is its a bit big for anything less than 13.2HH!!!

The Richardson is not the same quality but still a good box and I dont think you get all the extras. A lot of the extra money for the straight rice goes on paintwork tbh, so you would be better to go for the richardson probably if your on a budget.

When we tried one out, I actually got in the back of the trailer and my OH towed it so I could feel how steady and quiet it was!!

The Richrdson also has an extra 2 inches headroom. B60=7'6 and equivalent Richrdson =7'8.

My old boy was 16'3" and wouldn't travel in anything other than a lorry. Unfortunately I had to sell my lorry when I had my little girl and ended up buying an equi trek (large one) and he went straight up the ramp and travelled better than he had in a lorry. I had a cctv kit installed so I could see him travel and he stood as good as gold !! Plenty of headroom and enough room to move the partition over to give him space and still fit in a big horse next to him. My 15'1" youngster looks tiny in it. But be warned you do need a juicy 4x4 to tow it as it is so heavy - I have a disco which copes really well.

Good luck with your search . . .. .

Just brought brand new Ascot Bateson very spacious and near side ramp with partition on massive swing so very easy to get your horse out no hips banging, etc and safe if unloading on road if broke down. Suspension very superior to Ifor etc . Not sure what max height is 17hh or 17'2". I only got two 15'3" horses but one started loading funny so all the extra space and inviting interior etc was my reason but they are very big and lockable tack cupboard not wheeling the tack pack in and out. White all over so very cool at all times. We had barn doors put on to help with loading issues but can have low ramp. We paid £4450 which included door conversion and two windows so ramp wld be cheaper

If you can find a 2nd hand Equitrek then go for it as long as it is the L version. Ive got the Equitrek Show Trekka L which carries 2 17.3hh. My mare is 17.2hh and is very claustraphobic and travels lovely in this trailer.

Its sexy black !!! Got it to match my black Shogun Sport - very bling!! Its virtually new as I used it less than 10 times in the end.

I have a Ricerichardson, supreme. I have a 16.3hh long warmblood mare and she loves it. She doesnt like travelling in a lorry on her own but doesnt mind too much with others, but will travel on her own and stand for hours in it on her own at shows. I chose this trailer because it is loger wider and higher than the HB510. Also I like it because there are more air vents and because the top of the front ramp opens up into the roof giving more room for their heads when unloading whereas the HB10 is just the height of the roof if you know what I mean. I love my trailer, and as I have a very fussy horse, I looked at other alternatives but decided on this one.
Good Luck with your search.
