I have the 4x4 sorted- just need to find a trailer now. Just not having much luck. I have been advised not to buy one for under £1k which seems expensive????? What advice can people give- what do I need to look out for- floor etc and can I get one for below £1k!!? Any advice appreciated. Needs to fit one 15.3 horse...

> if the floor has rubber matting lift it up to see if its covering owt
> You MUST check the brakes by pushing the tow bar (if it goes in slowly and is hard to push there good

I would agree with who ever told you not to get anything under 1k unless of course you know them.....

I'm really fussy and have to have a double wooden floor and rubber matting, makes it heavier, but at least I know my baby is safe.

Mine is a Rice B60 as Ralph is 16.2 and wide! I like the rice because the ramp unloads onto the left, so if god forbid you have trouble on the M way, you unload onto the hard shoulder and not the road........

Everyone has different preference, you would need to go and see a few types to get a feel for them, but dont be tempted to buy a cheap one unless you know the full history and get someone who has experience in trailers to come with you. If you can see daylight between your legs and the road, dont get it

I would be extremely cautious if you look at anything under £1k

Hi I bought a horsebox off E-Bay for £750 it looked ok, needed one quick so bought it. Wished I hadn't, had to fit 4 new autoreverse brakes and suspension units £245 X 2 =£490 plus new Bradley HU3 Coupling rated 2750kgs £214 plus welding repairs underneath and a coat of paint. Just as well I did the work mysite and didn't have to pay someone else. My advise, if you can't do the repairs buy new. Good Luck

As has been mentioned check the floor & where the walls meet the floor because that is a main place for corrosion. Be careful if the floor has 'a double floor'. Invariably someone has just fitted a piece of plywood over an already rotting floor. Don't just check under rubber matting check it from underneath the trailer.

Check brakes & hitch to see they work properly. Regarding the electrics, they can be a nightmare to sort out if water/corrosion has got into them. They are easy to replace with a trailer board or strip the trailer board & fit the lights & wiring alone which will work well. Wether the trailer is priced at over or under £1000 it matters little, go through all the checks on any trailer. I bought one at £500 & I refurbished it, used it for 3 years & then sold it on Horsemart for £800 & it was bought by the first person to come & view so there are bargains out there. Good Luck
